Your desk setups, part 6: Twitch streamer Der_Woo is all about one game

This setup is designed for one game only: Star Citizen. Der_Woo is an avid gamer and Twitch streamer. The fact that Star Citizen’s been in development for ages doesn’t bother him in the slightest.

This desk setup was the very first one sent in after we asked our Community members to show us where they work. Impressive start, I thought to myself. Someone’s really gone the extra mile.

This someone’s «Der_Woo», as he’s called on Twitch and wants to be referred to in this article, too. He’s 39, has two teenaged kids and works full-time in a spare parts warehouse in the truck manufacturing sector. And he’s a passionate streamer, almost exclusively playing Star Citizen. He’s obsessed with the game.

Incidentally, Der_Woo only got a gaming PC at the beginning of 2020. Until then, he’d been a console gamer. Then he had a life-changing experience – he watched a YouTube video about Star Citizen. At first he didn’t even realise it was a game, he just thought it looked cool. The game’s only available for PC, so he had to get a PC.

Today, he has two – one for gaming and one for streaming. The streaming fever caught him after watching streams himself and realising that many streamers were withdrawing from Star Citizen. How come? Well, the space sim’s been in development for quite a while and is still a long way from a final version. This may put many people off, but it makes things exciting for Der_Woo. There’s always new content to try out. Der_Woo’s confident the developers have by no means given up, but are just taking their time. One thing’s for sure – the game’s already so big and complex that it takes quite some time to see all of it.

Streaming requires a lot of equipment that wouldn’t be necessary just for gaming. A capture card, a stream deck and an audio interface, for instance. Of course, a microphone attached to a swivel arm, lighting, webcam, acoustic elements and an extendable green screen are also necessary.

That’s quite some equipment. But even this setup looks tidy thanks to good cable management. The height-adjustable table’s attached to the wall with rails, offering greater stability.

Looking under the table: the cables are neat and permanently attached.

Unlike Star Citizen, Der_Woo’s desk isn’t in development any more. Having said that, this kind of project’s probably never quite finished.
