Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has impressive hardware
With the Mix Fold 3, Xiaomi has unveiled a new foldable phone. This is the smartphone manufacturer's third longitudinally foldable phone in China. It remains to be seen whether it will make its way to Europe.

Folding mobile phones are becoming less and less fragile. This is also evident in the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, which is only available in China for the time being: it can be folded over 500,000 times without any problems. Assuming you use the phone for four years, you could open and close it 300 times a day.
The OLED external display of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 measures 6.5 inches and has up to 120 hertz. It is said to have an impressive brightness with a peak of 2600 nits. The display has a resolution of 1080 × 2520 pixels. It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the OLED inner display measures 8 inches with a resolution of 1916 × 2160 pixels. It achieves a peak of 1300 nits.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is installed as the centrepiece - in a higher clocked version. This achieves up to 3.36 GHz instead of the regular 3.19 GHz. With up to one terabyte of internal memory and up to 16 gigabytes of RAM, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is generously equipped. Even the battery is quite large for a foldable phone: 4800 mAh. It can be charged via cable with 67 watts and wirelessly with 50 watts. The smartphone weighs just 255 grams. When unfolded, it measures 161.2 × 143.3 × 5.3 millimetres and 161.2 × 73.5 × 10.9 mm when closed. The software, MIUI Fold 14, is customised for foldable phones.

The cameras also sound promising. Four are installed. At 1/1.56 inches, the sensor of the 50-megapixel main camera does not quite come close to the 1-inch sensor of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. However, there are two 10-megapixel telephoto cameras plus zoom and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. A 20-megapixel camera is on board for selfies.

It all sounds pretty powerful, but the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is (for now) only available in China. This was already the case with its two predecessors, which unfortunately never made it to Europe. It will be sold there for 8999 yuan (around 1086 francs / 1130 euros) in the colours black and gold. It is uncertain whether Xiaomi's folding phone number three will make it to Europe after all.
