USB 4 version 2.0: Double the speed with current USB 4 cables
The USB 4 version 2.0 standard promises speeds of up to 80 Gbps. The special thing about it is that this value can also be achieved with current USB 4 cables. The official release date is not yet known.
The next USB generation will be fast. According to a press release by the "USB Promoter Group" even really fast. The new standard with the confusing name "USB 4 Version 2.0" offers data transfer speeds of 80 Gbps, twice as high as the current USB 4 standard and Thunderbolt 4.
Special is the fact that this will also be possible with current USB 4 cables. Cables certified for 40 Gbps will therefore be able to reach speeds twice as high in the future.
The new standard will also be backwards compatible with USB 4 version 1.0, USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.
The "USB Promoter Group" responsible for the USB standard has not yet published the detailed technical specifications of the new USB generation and the background of the special backwards compatibility. Therefore, it is also unclear when the new standard will officially appear.
