The streaming giant's vision of an increasingly loose interpretation of "The Witcher" books no longer matched Cavill's much more faithful-to-the-book approach. Cavill felt betrayed and announced gloomily that he would not be renewing his contract with Netflix after season 3. He nevertheless wished his successor, "The Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth, nothing but the best.

Will fans settle for Hemsworth? Cavill has always been considered the ideal cast. Not least because he played the grumpy Geralt of Riva in the same bad-tempered way that author Andrzej Sapkowski describes him in the books. And if you watch the series in the original soundtrack, you can hardly distinguish Cavill's voice from the popular deep, growling voice from the games.

Cavill's bar is therefore damn high. Whether Hemsworth fails to meet it remains to be seen. In any case, the teaser is pleasantly dark. The costume and the iconic white hair fit. But doubts remain: Hemsworth doesn't make a sound in the teaser. Netflix thus misses the chance to appease sceptical fans with a comfortably grumbled "Fuck".
