Since Netflix and lead actor Henry Cavill went their separate ways, "The Witcher" fans have been eagerly awaiting the look of his successor Liam Hemsworth. Now Netflix has finally released a first short trailer.

Will the kind people also hand their gold to the "new" Witcher? At any rate, Netflix would like the transition from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth to be as smooth as possible. Both play or played the titular "Witcher" Geralt of Riva. A first, really short teaser now shows Hemsworth in "The Witcher" look for the first time.

The result: quite coherent.

The teaser does not reveal when the fourth - and penultimate - season will be released.

Is that enough to win back the favour of the fans?

Lately, Netflix's monster hunt in the Slavic-influenced fantasy universe has looked badly tarnished. Not just because of falling viewer numbers. The departure of Henry Cavill was a particular talking point. The leading actor is not only a fan favourite because of his openly celebrated nerdiness, but was also a guarantee that Netflix treated author Andrzej Sapkowski's source material with respect.

At least until Netflix deviated from this path. The streaming giant's vision of an increasingly loose interpretation of "The Witcher" books no longer matched Cavill's much more faithful-to-the-book approach. Cavill felt betrayed and announced gloomily that he would not be renewing his contract with Netflix after season 3. He nevertheless wished his successor, "The Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth, nothing but the best.

Bang on "The Witcher": Henry Cavill is replaced by Liam Hemsworth

Will fans settle for Hemsworth? Cavill has always been considered the ideal cast. Not least because he played the grumpy Geralt of Riva in the same bad-tempered way that author Andrzej Sapkowski describes him in the books. And if you watch the series in the original soundtrack, you can hardly distinguish Cavill's voice from the popular deep, growling voice from the games.

Cavill's bar is therefore damn high. Whether Hemsworth fails to meet it remains to be seen. In any case, the teaser is pleasantly dark. The costume and the iconic white hair fit. But doubts remain: Hemsworth doesn't make a sound in the teaser. Netflix thus misses the chance to appease sceptical fans with a comfortably grumbled "Fuck".
