The ultimate Apex Legends tier list for the Digitec Playground Cup, Vol. 9

The Apex Legends roster counts a whopping 23 characters. I want to know which ones are currently the best and which ones are safe to ignore as an Apex newbie. Our Digitec Playground broadcasters give me answers.

The time has come! This Saturday marks the start of the qualifiers in Apex Legends for the Digitec Playground, Vol. 9. You can watch the matches live on Twitch and YouTube. The qualifiers will be moderated by our broadcasters and Apex Legends experts aRTycH and Chrigi.

A few years ago, I’d play Apex Legends every now and then. After our Community selected this shooter in the Playground voting, I felt the urge to dive back into the colourful world of battle royale. I was surprised to find the game’s roster had since grown to 23 Legends.

To make my Apex Legends comeback easier on myself, I asked aRTycH and Chrigi to create a tier list of all the Legends. I was especially curious to see if my old favourites, Bloodhound, Lifeline and Pathfinder, were still playable, or if I’d have to reorient myself.

Here are the currently best (and worst) Legends according to our Playground casters.

S (overpowered)

With Seer’s abilities, you can easily track down enemies and even see through walls. His only weakness compared to other top-tier characters is his limited mobility.
Valkyrie is one of the most mobile characters in the game thanks to her jetpack. This gives you an incredible number of options in combat, while her ultimate allows you to get your whole team out of dicey situations. Valkyrie has changed the style of play in pro and ranked lobbies forever.
With her abilities, Horizon offers not only you, but your whole team, loads of mobility. Her ultimate can be deadly when combined with grenades. All in all, a well-rounded character.

A (incredibly good)

Good old Bloodhound would be in the S-tier if not for Seer. Both characters have similar abilities, but Seer is the better overall package.
If we’re being honest, Bangalore’s smoke grenades are unspectacular. But what many people don’t know is that controller players can’t use aimbot in the smoke. That’s why the character is very popular in high-ranked lobbies.

B (very strong)

Loba’s ability and ultimate allow you to find very good loot and lots of ammo very quickly. With her tactical ability, you can throw a ring and then teleport to it. While pretty cool, the ability’s implementation is so slow and sluggish that it’s often not usable.
Wattson is the best defensive character in the game. Her ultimate protects you from grenades and gives your whole team free shields. She can also create electrically charged protective fences – a very handy ability.
Crypto is a difficult character. But if you master his skills, he can prove very valuable. Especially his drones, which allow you to scout an area, can make or break it late game.

C (quite alright)

Catalyst is the newest character in Apex Legends. Her abilities are useful, but skilled players can easily bypass them and even use them against you.
Mad Maggie has the most aggressive ultimate in the game. She shoots a ball that paralyses opponents while giving you and your teammates a temporary mobility boost. In addition, she can move faster with a shotgun. And you can never go wrong with a shotgun.
Wraith is a solid character. Thanks to her teleportation abilities, you’ll be able to get yourself and your team out of many a pickle. But her passive ability – sensing when someone’s aiming at her – isn’t as strong as it used to be.
Newcastle is a good defensive character who proves especially useful in the late game. But he’s too slow.
Ash used to have one of the best ultimates for escaping combat situations. Unfortunately, it’s since been severely weakened.

D (passable)

Pathfinder is very mobile and fast. But that’s all he’s got going for himself.
Fuse is Apex Legends’ grenadier. Unfortunately, his skills and ultimate can be bypassed far too easily by skilled players.
Vantage is a good sniper character. Her abilities and ultimates are interesting. Among other things, she can mark enemies to inflict more damage on them. But she’s far too slow and therefore only in the D-tier.
Caustic’s also in the D-tier due to his inertia. His poisonous gas traps have also been greatly weakened over the seasons.
Octane has been increasingly weakened over time to the point of being nigh on unusable. Especially his passive ability to regenerate health is rather useless in a game like Apex Legends.
Good old Gibraltar used to be one of the strongest characters. And now? These days, he’s outpowered by most new characters with similar skillsets. Both his passive ability and ultimate have been severely weakened. And he’s by far the biggest and clunkiest character on the roster.

E (unplayable)

Rampart was OK for one season but is now one of the weakest characters in the game. Her ultimate – a minigun – is pointless and hardly ever gets used. And, as is so often the case with poorly ranked characters, she’s too slow. You’re better off playing Newcastle (B-tier); he’s the better Rampart.
Revenant – another Legend who was good for a short while and has since become useless. His ultimate isn’t very useful. It’s very loud to boot, quickly exposing your team to your opponents.
Lifeline is a support character who’s lost many abilities over the seasons. Her ability to regenerate health points is rarely needed, as fighting often ends as soon as the shields are depleted. Her ultimate – a care package with equipment – is also too loud and just attracts attention.
Mirage is an absolutely useless troll character. His abilities allow you to create holographic copies of yourself to confuse opponents. This rarely ever succeeds. Literally any other character is preferable for a well-functioning team.

What does your list look like?

My main takeaway for my comeback? Bloodhound’s still OK, but Pathfinder and Lifeline are a no-go. Of the new characters, I’m most taken with Seer.

And now it’s your turn: what does your tier list look like? Do you agree with aRTycH and Chrigi’s ranking, or would you rank the characters completely differently?

Fill out your own tier list and share your results in the comments or on our Discord server.
