No, the RTX 5070 isn’t as fast as the RTX 4090
by Kevin Hofer
The RTX 5060 Ti is available in two versions: with 8 or 16 gigabytes (GB) of memory. Initial tests of the 16 GB version attest to the card's decent performance, albeit not a huge leap compared to the previous generation.
First things first: You won't find many reviews of the 8 GB version of the RTX 5060 Ti - if any at all. Nvidia probably wants to focus on the 16 GB model. That makes sense, because in the year 2025, nobody recommends a graphics card with only 8 GB of video memory - not even the reviewers quoted below. After all, Nvidia is launching a 16 GB model of the RTX 5060 Ti right from the start - and not later at a high surcharge.
W1zzard from Techpowerup writes that the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is 13 per cent faster in classic Rasterizer games at 1440p resolution than the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB. This is a small increase in performance. At 2160p resolution, the gap in his tests is 20 per cent. Compared to the 3060 Ti, the performance increase is also only 31 per cent. The differences are also small for ray tracing. Here, W1zzard writes of a 10 per cent increase compared to the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB. In contrast, the difference to the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB is a whopping 56 per cent. This is also the reason why nobody recommends 8 GB of graphics memory in 2025.
Wolfgang Andermahr from Computerbase comes to similar results. In his case, the difference to the previous generation across all games and resolutions is 20 per cent. Compared to the competition from AMD with the RX 7700 XT, the Nvidia card is five per cent faster in Rasterizer games and 23 per cent faster in ray tracing. The RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is a good graphics card for gaming in 1440p resolution.
Steven Walton from Techspot, on the other hand, argues that the 15 per cent increase in performance compared to the previous model is small.
At least Walton attests that the RTX 5060 Ti has a better value for money. A frame of the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB costs 25 per cent less than one of the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB. However, he considered the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB to be far too expensive anyway. Compared to an RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT, the new Nvidia card delivers a poorer value for money.
Andermahr writes that the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is an option with a recommended retail price (RRP) of 449 euros. The RX 7700 XT 12 GB from AMD is more expensive and less powerful and the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB is unattractive in terms of price in comparison.
Finally, W1zzard blows the same horn. However, he points out that the card is particularly worth a look if you are looking for a GPU with 16 GB of memory. However, he is also convinced that there will only be a few cards available at the RRP and that the actual price will be significantly higher.
W1zzard writes that the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB requires little power in idle mode compared to the other cards in the RTX 50 series. When gaming, the GPU draws 160 watts in rasteriser games. The power limit of 180 watts can be reached during ray tracing.
Andermahr, on the other hand, sees the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB in the midfield of the current graphics card generation in idle mode. The card only requires 18 watts when watching a YouTube video.
Walton, on the other hand, compares the power consumption with the performance increase. Conclusion: For 15 per cent more FPS, the card also requires 15 per cent more watts.
Availability in our shop: The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and 8GB will officially go on sale from 16 April at 3 pm. We don't yet have any models in stock for the launch, which is why you won't find them in the shop. The first models are expected to arrive next week at the earliest.
