The first Avengers Endgame trailer: Who is Ronin?
The new trailer for «Avengers 4», due to hit screens in April 2019, is here. At last! Alongside a few interesting details, the trailer gives away the movie's title: Endgame.
Finally, it’s here. The first trailer for «Avengers: Endgame». It gives us an answer to a hotly debated question regarding the successor of «Infinity War»: Its title. And it things couldn’t get more exciting. «We’re in the endgame now,» Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) said in the prequel.
There you have it. Endgame.
What’s in store?
Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is aimlessly drifting through space. He knows his chances of being found are slim. Supplies have run out and so will his oxygen in a day’s time. He dies.
Thanos has laid down his armour. His gauntlet appears to be damaged.
Back on planet Earth, we see the remaining Avengers: Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans), Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner aka Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). They are grieving the fallen ones. It seems that Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is among them.
«We lost. We lost friends, we lost family, and we lost part of ourselves,» says the voice of Captain America. The image shown when he says they lost a part of themselves battling Thanos is the following: Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The keen eye of comic enthusiasts will spot it instantly: That’s not Hawkeye, it’s Ronin.
In the comic book, Clint Barton is wearing the mask of Ronin after the Avengers are divided and beaten following the events of the civil war. The mystery surrounding Ronin went on for a few issues. Until it was revealed that Clint had been passing himself as Ronin because his pupil Kate Bishop was now calling herself Hawkeye and he didn’t want to tarnish the remembrance of himself. This is because readers of the comic book «New Avengers» all thought Clint was dead.
Today, Clint calls himself Hawkeye again. And so does Kate Bishop. They’re connected by a kind of love-hate relationship between mentor and student. Following Clint’s return to calling himself Hawkeye, the name Ronin was appropriated by the heroine Echo. Meanwhile, the deaf woman calls herself Echo again. Ronin vanished from the comic books.
Then you can hear the voice of Black Widow saying: «This is going to work, Steve». Captain America replies: «I know it is, ‘cause I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t».
What’s going to work? Not a clue. We’re left in the dark.
Then the title «Endgame» appears. The secret is revealed.
But the trailer doesn’t end here.
Ant-Man knocks on the door to what must be the Avengers headquarters. Black Widow and Captain America look surprised. The trailer seems to emphasize that Ant-Man is a key character in «Avengers: Endgame».
