"Return to Monkey Island": New part of the series announced
"Monkey Island" mastermind Ron Gilbert is working on another title in the cult series. "Return to Monkey Island" is supposed to tie in with the second part and be released this year.
With "Return to Monkey Island" Guybrush Threepwood returns after almost 25 years. Series creator Ron Gilbert announced this on Twitter. He has been working on the title with his team from Terrible Toybox for two years. The game is scheduled for release later this year.
In a 57-second teaser, sadistic skull Murray says: "Ron Gilbert told me he would never make a sequel to Monkey Island unless ...". Then he gets pushed into the water. In fact, Ron Gilbert once said that he would only make a new "Monkey Island" if he had complete, creative freedom. That should be the case now.
The story picks up where part 2 left off. More is not known at the moment.
Fans should be pleased that Dominic Armato, the voice actor of the main character Guybrush Threepwood, is back on board. Gilbert did not reveal exactly when the game will be released. However, since it is still scheduled for release in 2022, the waiting period is limited to nine months.
