OnePlus Nord 3 presented: Mid-range smartphone with plenty of power
The Nord 3 is the new mid-range smartphone from OnePlus. The features are divided between top smartphones and entry-level models, although the positive elements predominate.
The sales ban in Germany has not stopped OnePlus from presenting new smartphones for other countries. The Nord 3 has a large AMOLED display, the Dimensity 9000 and a battery that charges quickly. Weak points can be seen in the camera system.
Large display, plenty of power and "only" a good camera
The 6.74-inch AMOLED display of the OnePlus 3 has a resolution of 2772 × 1240 pixels. The refresh rate reaches up to 120 hertz and the brightness up to 1450 nits.
The built-in Mediatek Dimensity 9000 was still a processor for top smartphones in 2022. It should provide the Nord 3 with plenty of computing power. It is supported by 8 or 16 gigabytes of RAM. The internal memory offers a capacity of 128 or 256 gigabytes.
The main camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels. With the Sony IMX890 sensor, this gives hope for good image quality. This hope diminishes with the ultra-wide-angle camera. OnePlus does not reveal which sensor is used. Only that it has a resolution of eight megapixels and the viewing angle is 112 degrees. I have no expectations of the 2-megapixel macro camera. However, the 16-megapixel front camera for selfies sounds more promising.
Fast charging
You can charge the 5000 mAh battery with up to 80 watts using Supervooc fast charging technology. OnePlus promises that the Nord 3 will have enough power for one day in 15 minutes. Mind you, this is for one day and not for a full charge of the battery.
The software used is OxygenOS 13.1, which is based on Android 13. OnePlus promises to provide the Nord 3 with software updates for three years - i.e. up to Android 16. The smartphone will receive security updates for four years.
Overall, the OnePlus Nord 3 sits between the OnePlus 11 and the Nord CE 3 Lite.
Price and availability
The recommended retail price for the OnePlus Nord starts at 449 euros for the version with 8 and 128 gigabytes of memory. The version with 16 and 256 gigabytes costs 100 euros more. Delivery of the devices is scheduled to start on 12 July in 16 European countries. Germany is not one of them. There is still no final statement on availability and price for Switzerland.
