Attention: If you don't act, you'll soon be paying more for Disney+
by Luca Fontana
Our digital lives are becoming more and more expensive. Even when it comes to streaming films and series. After Netflix and Disney, a third prominent streaming service is now increasing its prices: Apple.
After Netflix and Disney, Apple is also increasing the prices for its online services Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and Apple One. Apple itself reveals this on its homepage. However, an Apple spokesperson told industry magazine The Verge that the Apple customer base still has some time before the switchover.
The spokesperson explained that the new prices apply immediately. But only for new customers. For existing subscriptions, the new prices will only apply to the next billing period.
For example, anyone who has recently taken out an Apple TV+ annual subscription does not have to worry about additional payments until it expires. However, those who pay for Apple TV+, Apple Arcade or Apple One from month to month will have to pay more for games or series such as "Ted Lasso" and "Severance" from the next billing period in November. Proportionally, the price increase for Apple TV+ is particularly significant:
According to the industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter, Apple justifies itself by saying that it has achieved many milestones in a very short space of time since the launch of Apple TV+ four years ago. Not only has the amount of content been drastically increased, but award-winning films and series have also been added. For example, the critically acclaimed Apple production "Killers of the Flower Moon" is currently showing in cinemas (and later on Apple TV+). According to Apple, Apple Arcade now also offers three times more titles than at the launch in 2019.
Unlike the competition, Apple obviously does not (yet) want to rely on advertising-supported subscription models. In terms of communication technology, price increases cannot be hidden under the guise of "new, cheaper" subscriptions with advertising. Netflix's price increase, for example, is still a while off in this country, but Disney+ subscribers will have to react quickly if they don't want to pay even more for streaming from 1 November. November if they don't want to pay even more to stream "Loki".
The price hike does not only affect Switzerland. Customers in the USA, the UK and several European countries - including Germany - are also already seeing the new price levels.
