Huawei Mate X: specs and release date of the foldable phone

It's going to be large, heavy and darn expensive. Read on to find more newly released details about the foldable Huawei Mate X.
Huawei has announced the final details of the foldable smartphone. According to t3.com, the Mate X is supposed to boast impressive specs. The tech news company refers to Huawei’s entries in the TENAA, the licensing authority of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. While the public has seen prototypes and pre-production models of the Mate X, its final specs have been a secret so far.
8- inch OLED, but really heavy
When pulled out, the screen will have a diagonal of eight inches and display 2480x2200 pixels. What's particularly remarkable is the pixel density of 414 pixels per square inch (ppi). This puts the Mate X above the competition, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which features 362 ppi. Whether this specification is true remains to be seen, since the final specs of this foldable phone have not yet been announced.

The 4400 mAh battery is slightly less powerful than was rumoured at MWC in Barcelona. And also 100 mAh less than the outdated official website of the phone indicates. The dimensions of the Mate X will be 161.3 mm x 146.2 mm x 11 mm. With these dimensions, it's not surprising that this is a heavy smartphone: 287 grams without SIM card.
The Mate X is pricey, to say the least. Huawei has confirmed that the lowest-priced models will cost about 2,300 euros – that's about 2,500 Swiss francs. The luxury and 5G versions are likely to put an even larger dent in your finances.
What about Huawei’s own memory card standard?
The Mate X is available in versions with 6, 8 or 12 GB RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB memory. Additional storage can be added via microSD, according to TENAA. Wait a second, didn’t Huawei try to introduce its own memory card standard last year? Yes. The so-called NanoSD card is as large as a NanoSIM card – about the size of a fingernail.

Has Huawei lost faith in NanoSD? Or is the company just trying to make the most of the space the Mate X hardware offers?
