07.06. - Summer Game Fest Showcase

When: Friday, 07 June at 22:45
Where: Youtube, Twitch
What you can expect:

Geoff Keighley, the creator of the Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, will take to the stage on Friday to present a host of trailers for various AAA games. Some publishers have already confirmed that they will be bringing exclusive new announcements with them.

Capcom presents new gameplay impressions of "Monster Hunter Wilds". The monster-slaying game has already been presented at the Playstation event and looks phenomenal. The looter shooter "The First Descendant" also has a new trailer and an official release date. For "Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero", the spiritual brawler successor to "Budokai Tenkaichi", publisher Bandai Namco promises new information and gameplay impressions. "Choo Choo Charlie" developer Two Star will present its new multiplayer game. Remedy posts cryptic teasers on social media - many fans are hoping that there could be new content for "Alan Wake 2". 2K wants to unveil a new game from one of its "biggest and most popular gaming franchises" https://twitter.com/summergamefest/status/1791201250521825718. Is it "Bioshock"? "Mafia?" Or perhaps "Borderlands"? There will also be first impressions of the "Among Us" TV series.

You shouldn't expect much from the three console manufacturers at this showcase. Sony has already shown its line-up at the State of Play, while Microsoft will be firing off its powder at the Xbox Direct on 9 June. Nintendo is not listed as an official partner of the Summer Game Fest https://www.summergamefest.com/. However, the company has already confirmed that a "Nintendo Direct" presentation is planned for June. In this, the Switch line-up is to be presented by the end of the year.

In a live Q&A session on Twitch, Keighley confirms more content that you shouldn't expect. "GTA 6" will definitely not be included. Trailers or new information on "Kingdom Hearts 4", "Judas", "Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater", "Beyond Good and Evil 2", "Five Nights at Freddy's" and "Hollow Knight: Silksong" should not be expected either. Keighley's mate and "Fuck the Oscars" legend Josef Farres will not be there. There will also be no "One More Thing" moment with an unexpected announcement.

You can see Keighley's show from last year here.

08.06. - Devolver Direct

When: Saturday, 08 June at 02:00
Where: Youtube, Twitch
What you can expect:

Anyone who knows Devolver knows that their showcases are anything but ordinary. Every year, the indie publisher surprises its fans with new, crazy ideas that are realised in incredibly elaborately produced sketch videos. Last year, Devolver came up with a video game mascot: Volvy. In Devolver's parallel world, the ugly little mouse is "a cultural icon of the gaming world and more influential than any pop star or politician". The rodent is celebrating its birthday at this year's "Devolver Direct". The teaser trailer exudes horror vibes and gives hope for a wonderfully crazy performance.

In addition to wacky staging, Devolver also has many excellent indie games to marvel at. For example, the first gameplay impressions of "Neva", the new project from the "Gris" developers.

Volvy's first appearance from last year can be seen here.

In other words: lots of crazy and colourful indie games. The games on show will be collected on a Steam hub page - you will be able to test some of them after the Direct.

You can see last year's "harmless programme" here.

08.06. - Wholesome Direct

The "Future Games" show is organised by the gaming publication Gamesradar. The event promises numerous world premieres of over 40 smaller and larger games. One example is "The Casting of Frank Stone" - the new horror game from the makers of "Dead by Daylight". The whole thing will be hosted by Britt Baron (known as Tifa from "Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth") and Roger Clark (known as Arthur Morgan from "Red Dead Redemption 2").

Back to last year's future with Spider-Man aka Yuri Lowenthal and Mary-Jane-Watson aka Laura Bailey can be found here.

09.06. - Xbox Games Showcase & Black Ops 6 Direct

When: Sunday, 09 June at 19:00
Where: Youtube, Twitch

What you can expect:

Microsoft is facing major problems. Following the 68.7 billion US dollar takeover of Activision-Blizzard, the gaming division is under considerable pressure. The Xbox business must grow, whatever the cost. Formerly exclusive games such as "Grounded" and "Sea of Thieves" are being ported to Playstation and Nintendo platforms in order to bring in even more money. Popular studios such as Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin are being closed to save costs. Xbox fans fear for the future of the platform and look to the future of the iconic brand with concern.

At the Xbox Showcase, Microsoft has to deliver and convince its audience that it is worth staying in the Xbox ecosystem. The potential for a killer show is definitely there. Some games that were presented a long time ago have not been heard of for a long time. For example, Rare's beautiful open-world game "Everwild". Also missing in action is the co-op shooter "Contraband", for which there is only a CGI trailer so far. Apart from a short teaser trailer from E3 2021, not much is known about Obsidian's "The Outer Worlds" sequel. The announcement of the zombie survival shooter "State of Decay 3" was also a long time ago. Since the unveiling of the "Perfect Dark" reboot by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics in December 2020, we have only read worrying rumours about a turbulent development.

There has also been silence on some of the titles revealed at last year's showcase. What about the "Fable" remake from "Forza Horizon" developer Playground Games? And what about this wonderful stop-motion horror game "South of Midnight"? The "Bioshock"-esque steampunk adventure "Clockwork Revolution" has also disappeared into oblivion since last year's presentation.

In addition, Microsoft could also show new impressions of recently presented games - such as the fantasy RPG "Avowed", "Indiana Jones" and "Blade". Impressions of the first "Starfield" DLC "Shattered Space" are also likely.

What is clear is that Microsoft will deliver a deep dive on this year's "Call of Duty" in the "Black Ops 6 Direct" following the Xbox Showcase. The company has confirmed that the launch mega-game will be immediately available in Game Pass /page/confirmed-call-of-duty-black-ops-6-comes-directly-in-game-pass-33295.

Phil, Simon and I will be watching and commenting on the event live. Stop by and chat with us on Twitch and Youtube. You can watch last year's Xbox Showcase here:

09.06. - PC Gaming Show

When: Sunday, 09 June at 22:00
Where: Youtube, Twitch
What to expect:

10.06. - Ubisoft Forward

When: Monday, 12 June at 21:00
Where: Youtube, Twitch
What you can expect:

Ubisoft shows new impressions of "Star Wars: Outlaws" and "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" as well as updates to the multiplayer shooter "Xdefiant". There will almost certainly also be updates to Ubisoft's other live service games - for example "The Crew Motorfest" and "Skull and Bones".

Fans are also hoping for signs of life for the long-announced "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake, which, according to insider reports, had to be almost completely restarted. Speaking of which, what about "Beyond Good and Evil 2"? The game was announced in 2008 and postponed countless times.

June - Nintendo Direct

When: sometime in June
Where: Youtube
What you can expect:

During an investor conference, Nintendo has already confirmed that there will finally be news about the Switch successor in the current fiscal year. Before that, however, a Nintendo Direct will take place in June. According to Nintendo, the new hardware will not be mentioned in this presentation. Only games for the current Switch console will be shown, which are due to be released by the end of 2024.

What else does Nintendo have in store for its old hybrid console? According to rumours, the Japanese manufacturer has been sitting on remakes or remasters of "The Legend of Zelda" games for some time. Nintendo leaker Midori claims that a new edition of "Twilight Princess" has been finalised. Many fans are also hoping that the long-announced "Metroid Prime 4" will be the last major title to be announced for the Switch.

A specific date for the presentation has not yet been set. A date in the second half of the month is likely.

My love of video games was unleashed at the tender age of five by the original Gameboy. Over the years, it's grown in leaps and bounds.
