Followers and Favorites: Instagram brings new feed options

Nicely in order, instead of according to the algorithm. With Instagram's new feed options, that's possible again. The social media platform brings two new content sorting options.
Instagram users can now choose between two additional feed options. This was announced by Adam Mosseri, CEO of the Meta subsidiary, in a blog post.
In addition to the main feed, content can now also be displayed in Following or Favorites mode. The main feed is currently a mix of posts from followed channels and algorithm-based recommendations - content from accounts that users don't officially follow.
With the Following feed, Instagram turns back time
The two new options are different: In Following mode, the app shows users only content from their followed channels - and in the chronological order in which they were posted.
This sounds familiar because it's nothing new for Instagram. That's how the social media platform's display logic worked until 2016, but then came the change: The Instagram feed was no longer sorted by time, but controlled by an algorithm. This prioritizes content that users are more likely to like.
New favorites feed
In the second new feed option, the Favorites mode, the bot prioritizes content from favorite accounts. Users determine exactly which accounts these are: These can be added to the list or deleted at will, without the other person being informed. Favorites also tend to be shown in the main feed, where they are marked with a star. Users can set up to 50 favorites.
The two feed options can be found at the top left of the main feed's homepage. Tapping the Instagram logo brings up the two options.

«I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles!» – these words spoken by an iconic American TV celebrity could have been mine. It's a take on life I also apply to my job. What does this mean in concrete terms? That every story has its charm; no matter how small, large, exciting or trivial. The more eclectic the mix, the better.
