Quick as a flash: Digitec Galaxus launches same-day delivery in Zurich

The electronics specialist digitec has opened its eleventh branch in Langendorf near Solothurn. It’s the first digitec store in a Migros shopping centre.
digitec has opened its eleventh retail store. The Swiss online retailer’s newest branch is located in the Migros shopping centre «Ladedorf» in Langendorf, Solothurn, only a few minutes by public transport from Solothurn station.
The new store comes with a warehouse that has about 2,000 products in stock and available immediately – from mains adapters to mobile phones and robot vacuum cleaners. The retail store also serves as a collection and return point for orders from electronics specialist digitec and online department store Galaxus. The Langendorf branch is supplied by truck from the warehouse in Wohlen, Aargau, from Monday to Saturday. Orders that are placed before 5:30 a.m. are ready for collection at noon. The new showroom also offers customers of the two online shops the chance to touch and try out the most popular mobile phones, cameras, notebooks and televisions.
Great potential in the region
Langendorf is the first digitec store in a Migros shopping centre and replaces the former branch of Migros’s specialist retailer melectronics. The Federation of Migros Cooperatives owns 70 percent of Digitec Galaxus. Melectronics will continue its work in the customer service of the shopping centre and handle customer requests, service orders and other inquiries. All melectronics employees remain employed.
«We see great potential for a store in the Solothurn area,» says Florian Teuteberg, CEO of Digitec Galaxus. «Our customers appreciate the personal contact, on-site expert advice and the opportunity to collect and return their orders.» This is reflected in the high turnover the online shop achieves in regions that have a retail store. Previously, the nearest branch for clients from Solothurn was 40 kilometres away at Bern main station.
The new branch also allows Digitec Galaxus to find out if customers like the concept of a digitec store in a Migros shopping centre. «We'll be gathering insights and observations at the Langendorf store,» Florian Teuteberg states.
The party starts at 11:11 a.m.
On 28 November, Digitec Galaxus will open the new store in true Solothurn style with a tribute to the number eleven: the celebrations begin at 11:11 a.m. and include coffee, Solothurn's own gateau, 11i beer and digitec vouchers. Digitec Galaxus CEO Florian Teuteberg will host the opening party alongside CMO Martin Walthert, CCO Hendrik Blijdenstein and COO Johannes Cramer. The event ends at about 1:00 p.m. «The opening event is also our final rehearsal for Black Friday the day after and for Cyber Monday on 2 December,» Florian Teuteberg adds.
