AMD's new Ryzen 3D-V cache processors are particularly efficient

The Ryzen 7000 processors with 3D V-Cache will go on sale on 28 February 2023. The first reviews attest to a major leap in performance for the new CPUs, particularly in gaming.
For the time being, AMD is launching two processors with 3D-V cache: the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Ryzen 9 7900X3D. Both processors have additional cache on one of the two Core Complex Die. This should ensure better performance, especially in games. As initial reviews of the 7950X3D show, AMD can indeed take the lead among gaming CPUs. In contrast to the previous generation, performance in other applications suffers only minimally.
Techpowerup
1zzard from the online magazine Techpowerup comes to the conclusion that the 7950X3D is on average 14 per cent faster than the 7950X in 1080p resolution. In the same resolution, the AMD CPU also beats Intel's Core i9-13900K and is on a par with the i9-13900KS. In higher resolutions, however, the Intel CPUs have the edge due to the higher clock frequency. However, this is only in the low, single-digit percentage range.
The performance efficiency of the Ryzen 7950X3D CPU is astonishing. It only requires half the performance of the 13900K for a similar result. The AMD CPU delivers 253 points per watt in the Cinebench benchmark. The Intel CPU achieves just 131 points. In the game "Cyberpunk 2077" it is even more extreme: the 7950X only draws 55 watts, the 13900K 200 watts at a similar number of frames per second.
Computerbase
Reviewer Wolfgang Andermahr comes to similar conclusions. Thanks to 3D V-Cache, AMD beats Intel in the battle for the gaming crown. On average, AMD's new flagship 7950X beats the 13900KS by three per cent. In applications, however, the new AMD CPU is five per cent behind its sister without 3D V-Cache. Intel's 13900K is also faster, but both require significantly more power.
In terms of price, the new CPU is expensive at over 700 francs/euros. It is particularly worthwhile for people who play games and need many threads for applications. If you don't game, the 7950X or 13900K is probably the better choice.
The new processors will be available from 28 February at 3 p.m.
