Important note - update the camera firmware first. I had to do this because of the FTZ II adapter. The camera is apparently delivered with firmware 1.0. Both of my lenses did not work (Tamron 24-70, 2.8; Nikkor 105 Micro). A phone call to Nikon customer support helped: you have to install the latest firmware. It takes 5 minutes and is super simple: download the firmware from the support site to the SD card in the top directory, then insert the SD card into the camera and install via the firmware menu. My day is saved: I bought the Nikon Z5 because I can continue to use my "old" lenses (and batteries) with this camera.
It would be interesting to know which firmware your Nikon Z has installed: I assume it already has version 1.2 on it. I had version 1.0 on it.
I have the FTZIII adapter and have absolutely no problems with the lenses. I also use over 40-year-old Nikon lenses without any problems.
