What is the difference between this model and the more expensive Garmin Camper 890 MT-S EU?
The Camper 890 MT-D reportedly includes a digital live traffic receiver. These devices decode traffic data that is embedded in FM radio broadcasts. Ordinary FM stations can include old analogue traffic data. HD FM radio may contain better digital traffic data. But all these stations may be few and far between and you will find many areas without any traffic coverage.
The Camper 890 MT-S receives traffic data from your smartphone via a Bluetooth link. If you don't have a smartphone, you won't have access to traffic at all. If you do have a smartphone, it will need to be connected to the GPS using a Garmin application. This will use the data from your mobile phone map, although it shouldn't be much. This data is generally of better quality and you will also get traffic information for the whole country. MT-D models will only get traffic data for your local area. So if you are going on a long trip, the MT-S model can use the traffic data for your destination when choosing routes.
