Question about Synology RS1619xs+

Three small questions, I am already a user of a Diskstation (DS916+), and I know that it is quite quiet (meaning the operating noise of the NAS, not the HDDs). I'm thinking of switching to the RS1619XS, and I know that the rack versions are certainly louder. A) Do the rack versions still have the settings for quiet, normal and cooling mode in the DSM like the small disk stations? B) Does anyone have values in dB(A) for how quiet (min) and loud (max) the part gets? C) Power consumption idle (standby)? I have looked through the manuals and data sheets, but have not found any information.... Thank you for your feedback.

Helpful answer

A) Yes, there is a setting in the DSM, which probably also has an effect, but I haven't tried it out.
B) No values, but when I set up the box in the office, it caused a lot of resentment. If you measure that against some other devices that are used in cabinets in data centres, the NAS is probably relatively quiet. But even if you put the rack station in a small distribution cabinet that you close completely, you still can't put it in the living room or in a room where you spend a lot of time, because the annoying whistling of the small, fast-moving fans will always be clearly audible.

I can't tell you anything about the power consumption. But if you want to run the whole thing at home, you'd better take a small PC in ITX format, a nice case, the whole thing optimised for ultra-quietness. For the price, you can build a completely silent and considerably more powerful solution that probably also needs less power. And if you still find DSM super cool and don't want to do without it, take a look at Xpenology.
