Sali mitenand I recently bought two Yamaha HS8 monitors and I want to connect them to my TV via 3.5mm jack. I have already ordered the adapter cable from 3.5mm to XLR, but when reading the manual I noticed that with an unbalanced, i.e. asymmetrical signal, the 6.3mm connector of the monitors should be used, as a symmetrical signal is intended for the XLR connectors of the monitors. I have no idea whether the 3.5mm jack connector of my TV is symmetrical or asymmetrical. Can I still use the adapter cable from 3.5mm jack to XLR or should I return the cable and buy a cable from 3.5mm to 6.3mm? Many thanks and LG

The output signal of the 3.5mm jack of your TV is almost certainly unbalanced. You can also connect the monitor speakers with the 3.5mm jack cable to XLR. However, since unbalanced outputs usually have lower levels than balanced ones, you may have to turn up the volume on the TV or turn up the gain on the monitor speakers so that the sound is loud enough.
I therefore recommend using the unbalanced inputs of the monitor speakers, in this setup 1 x 3.5mm jack to 2x 6.3mm jack (mono) (e.g. https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/cordial-cfy-3-wpp-y-adapterkabel-3m-midrange-63mm-klinke-35mm-klinke-audio-kabel-3488118).

I briefly looked at the manual for the HS8 and am of the opinion that both the XLR and the 6.3mm jack (TRS) connection are balanced. Therefore you can use the cable you ordered.

If you use the headphone output of the TV, but have a digital output on the TV (SPDIF/Toslink), I would recommend a mini DAC (e.g. https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/fiio-taishan-d03k-coaxialoptical-zu-analog-audio-converter-digital-analog-audio-adapter-438273, powered via the TV USB connection) or a DAC/preamp with digital inputs. This will give you even better sound quality (with RCA to TRS/XLR).
I'm currently dealing with the same issue, from a NAD 7050 from Pre Out to KRK Rokit RP10-3 G4 (Active, 300W, 1pc, Black) and am currently experimenting with Line Level Shifter ART CleanBox Pro (DJ, recording studio, music events) and
https://shop.musix.ch/de.... I'm having good experiences with the Art Cleanbox Pro. I was afraid of a ground loop, but it works perfectly without humming. Well. Long story and the experiment is not yet finished.
