I don't have Wi-Fi in my flat, but only use my smartphone as a hotspot or go directly to the internet with my smartphone. Can the Toniebox also be connected to internet-enabled smartphones?

Without guarantee that it works, because I have not tried it. But a smartphone hotspot normally works like a normal WLAN and should therefore also work as a WLAN for the Toniebox. It only needs the WLAN briefly anyway to download the content of new figures once. In the worst case, you could also do this at a friend's house or at the office if the hotspot doesn't work.
