Yes, you can do that without any problems.

I ride in the rain and through puddles with no problem... It's not a submarine but for me it's waterproof enough for the rain... You have to be very wary of manhole covers and other parts of the road that become slippery though, and in the snow it's not a good plan at all. Nothing to do with waterproofing...more to do with driving a scooter.
