Yes, the difference is that the 2 really exists and the 3 is just a misnomer from those sales pages. Magic Mouse 3 only means that it comes with the new cable (USB-C to Lightning instead of USB-A to Lightning).
The first version has a battery compartment. The second version has a battery and is charged with a Lightning cable.
The mouse named version 3 is the second version except that it now comes with a Lightning to USB C cable instead of a Lightning to USB A cable.
