Does anyone have any experience with this device and how is the software supplied with it?

Addendum: The negative strip must be turned over for scanning so that the sequence of the images is correct. In the preview with Silverfast, the view can be rotated so that the image is not scanned mirror-inverted. I don't know why, but when the negative strip is inserted like this, the scans are much sharper. Why is beyond me. But I did some tests and was amazed. The sticker on the machine also indicates how the negative strip should be inserted. I would advise against scanning whole rolls of film because the image has to be cropped because the transport of the strip is not 100% accurate to the millimetre and has to be readjusted. I find it a pity when image information is then missing. For me, this is also a great advantage because you get to see exactly the section of the image that you photographed at the time and not cut-off mountain peaks or feet :-)

I need the scanner mainly for scanning 36 negative films. for this application you will probably not find a better scanner. i also work with the silverfast 8 se version. you can safely throw the supplied software in the bin, especially if you want to automatically remove dust and scratches (only works with colour films). I can confirm that the autofocus doesn't work properly (at least with silverfast), but the manual focus is easy and with a little training, you'll soon get the hang of the scanner in general.
when i do a batch scan, it sometimes scans the last frame as the first, and then again at the end. the first frame on the film is then not scanned, which is often a bit annoying, but that's probably due to silverfast. it seems to be a bug. sometimes everything works fine if you give it enough cpu and ram power.
otherwise, the scanner pulls on flawlessly and works very fast, especially in the 16 bit and 8 bit colour range (i.e. b/w). in terms of resolution, you won't find a scanner in this price segment that offers a higher dpi than the 4300dpi that it effectively achieves. on the other hand, it already reaches the effective 4300 at the 5000dpi setting, which means that the image is not so blown up and therefore eats up less memory. I am very satisfied with the device because it exactly covers my area of application. I think there are better alternatives for scanning individual images. for scanning entire films, I think this model offers the best value for money that you can find.
here is a very detailed test report on scanners

Like its predecessor, the RPS 7200, this model also has its quirks.... When I restart Silverfast, the autofocus point always slips into the lower third of the image. Otherwise, the RPS 10M is the best you can buy on the market at this price. The software supplied is not very good. I use Silverfast 8 SE. The dust and scratch removal works perfectly and gives impressive results. I additionally insert negatives with only 2 pictures slightly overlapping with a neutral strip. Then you can also scan two pictures when you pull out the neutral strip. But for this, the strip with the pictures has to be pulled in twice (upside down). The further transport does not work. Single negatives must be framed and can be slid into the specially designed slot and scanned. What I MUST mention here! As with the previous model, the autofocus only works with slide frames. The autofocus does NOT work with negative strips. I have tried everything. The setting always ends up at + 2 mm, which results in a blurred scan! With slides, the autofocus works perfectly. I just set the autofocus manually for the negative strip and then everything is tip-top. These are the only drawbacks. Oh yes: scanning with 10 megapixels is unnecessary. According to the test chart, approx. 4900 dpi can be achieved. There is no difference between 5'000 dpi and 10'000 dpi. But 5'000 dpi is enough, because a normal negative does not give more sharpness. In short, despite the small annoying details, I am VERY satisfied with the device in combination with Silverfast (scanner software).

For slides, the machine has worked perfectly for me. Only when feeding in negatives does the machine not like negative strips, which are relatively short (only 2 pictures).
I didn't bother much with the software that came with the machine. Among other things, it is very limited in terms of the file formats it can handle and offers little in the way of functions compared to other programmes. If you are not afraid of the additional costs, I can recommend SilverFast.

There are some very informative reviews on amazon.de about this device with some recommendations for use and software. It helped me a lot.
