Xplora XGO3 Kids Smartwatch w/GPS

My son was very happy with the watch until we realised that it could be accessed by third parties! Someone had opened a Telegram account with his phone number (in a name with Cyrillic letters, with a female profile picture). Opening an account with Telegram works via 2FA, i.e. an SMS is sent to the phone number with a code that must be used for authentication. However, my son never received such a text message (this would not have been possible as Telegram was not listed on the contacts confirmed for him by us parents via the Xplora app). We contacted Telegram support, who confirmed that the watch must have a security vulnerability under the circumstances. I started researching and lo and behold - the watch has a "backdoor" deliberately built in by the Chinese manufacturer Qihoo 360. If you want to know more about this, just google "Xplora security leak" - there are several articles about it.

So my daughter is happy, the price is fair and we feel safer with GPS tracking.
The most important things for us are tracking, the safety zones with exit/entry notifications, two admins, waterproof and the quality in general. And the watch fulfils these requirements.

I made a mistake buying the XGO3 for my 7y old son. Much better option for my kiddo would be Apple Watch SE 2022 (40mm, 4G) + family setup. The size of the XGO3 is huge for a kids hand and the display is small. Connecting the micro-USB cable for charging is quite difficult compare to magnetic wireless charging of an Apple Watch. Kids can use only predifined messages, which can't be customized, so my son is stuck with the predifined msg. which Xplora thinks are sufficient. I was expecting at least 48h of battery life, but we get max 14h without playing with the watch or without calling/msg. The data usage is quite low (5-10 MB a month).

We compared different models, it was important to us that it was not a music box.

The clock only fulfils its purpose if there is a stable network in the environment in which it is used. Unfortunately, we have problems. The battery life is also only approx. 12 hours for us.
