Does what it's supposed to do and does it well. I like the sound, almost as good as my old AVR250 from Harman/Kardon.
The design is functional, so it's not eye-catching.
There are many connections for input and output.
The automatic calibration of the speakers worked very well.
Dolby Atmos sounds great.
4K and HDR are output flawlessly (XBOX ONE S and X9005C TV) in standard mode.
Addendum 27.2.2018: Unfortunately, I discovered that not everything works as perfectly as it should. If you set the HDMI input to enhanced, you can only connect an approx. 2m HDMI cable, with a 5m no picture comes through!
The following setup:
- Xbox One S (on enhanced, 4K HDR, everything on highest level)
- STR-DN1080 Game Input on enhanced
- Sony Bravia 65X9005C HDMI input on enhanced
If I connect the 5m cable directly to the TV, everything works flawlessly. All the ticks are green.
The output signal of this amplifier is apparently much too weak. It doesn't even manage an enhanced output via a cable of 2m + adapter + 3m!
Sony's recommendation: Connect the Xbox directly to the TV for the best quality!
I have now tried various cables but nothing helps, even an HDMI amplifier does not help. I can't run a second cable in the wall, the pipe is full.
A nerd from Digitec is welcome to take care of this, I'm sure there is someone out there who has a similar setup as me (by the way, with an SP4 there is also this problem). Tell me what I have to do/buy so that everything works and I am satisfied.
Addendum 17.10.2018: Things are going downhill! After the last firmware update, the Bluetooth connection is totally spinning. To connect Alexa to the receiver it took maybe 5 seconds before - now it takes over 1 minute! You also have to give the command to connect at least 2 times, otherwise nothing works.
Playback from the Spotify app only works if you manually switch the receiver to "Music Service". No more wake-up function.
Addendum 16.11.218: I took the receiver to the repair shop. They couldn't seem to find the problem, but they did replace the processor board. I have the video of the problem on YouTube!
After the repair, everything worked perfectly - exactly 1 day, then everything was back to normal. Called Sertronics, they didn't want to, called Sony, they couldn't. So all that was left was Digitec: request to send it in again, the thing weighs 11kg! Well, let's see if they take a closer look this time. The two problems are described in detail in the Sony Community: https://community.sony.ch

The sound is astonishingly good. How do the Sony sound engineers do that? Works very well with the Sony Blu-ray / 4K player UBP-X800. The What Hi-Fi? review is correct. In the settings, sounds good Full Flat and Pure Direct or Auto Format Decoding (AFD) using NeuralX. Makes me think a Sony TV would be good. The relatively brief format message at the start of a new source seems enough to me.

I have changed my Sony 1050 with 1080, was necessary because the old Sony 1050 does not work well anymore, 1080 is perfect, does everything well.

For a device of this type. I am personally disappointed compared to my previous device. The internet music services are limited to Chromecast and Spotify, no internet radio. I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it on a regular basis, but I'm sure I'll be able to use it on a regular basis, and I'm sure I'll be able to use it on a regular basis. The home network service cuts out as soon as I select a piece of music. In a few days, I've done the trick and I have to admit that it doesn't live up to my expectations, so back to square one unfortunately.
