Sony h.ear on 3 WH-H910N
ANC, 35 h, Wireless
In summary:
- The Sony H.ear On 3 (WH-H910N) is a winning combination of a comfort level comparable to Sennheiser's PXC 550, with a sound signature similar to Audio Technica's ATH-M50XBT, and an ANC only slightly lower than the WH-1000XM3 from the same manufacturer; and
- I still have reservations about the touchpad (still less precise and practical than the physical buttons on the Bose QC35 for example) and Sony's lack of multi-point Bluetooth remains regrettable and almost shameful.
Below, a mini-comparison with the WH-1000XM3 from the same manufacturer:
Advantages of the WH-1000XM3 (XM3):
- Its hard-shell protective case versus the cheap pouch of the HO3 ;
- It can be folded flat and more compact than the HO3;
- Its construction made of more noble materials, notably softer leathers than the HO3;
- Its ANC is still better than that of the HO3, even by a negligible amount; and
- It has a warmer, darker sound (more pronounced bass and lower midrange), better spatialization and a larger soundstage than the HO3.
The advantages of the H.ear On 3 (HO3):
- Its lower price (and therefore better value for money) compared to the XM3;
- Lighter and more comfortable than the XM3 (more balanced weight distribution between the headband and the earphones, better clamping force, more room for the ears thanks to thicker padding);
- Its look, which is simultaneously funkier in colour and more restrained in design than the XM3; and
- It has a less distant sound than the XM3, much more energetic and with more definition, without losing balance (it reminds a lot of Audio Technica's ATH-M50XBT, which is a very, very good thing).
My subjective opinion :
I prefer the H.ear On 3 to the XM3 that all the press praises. I have never really understood the high praise of the press in relation to the XM3. If it is not its ANC which is indisputably the best of the market currently (even beyond the Bose 700), the XM3 also has big redhibitory defects concerning me, in particular a sound signature too dark and relaxed (to understand too much bass, not enough energy and clarityThe XM3 also has some major flaws that I find objectionable, including a sound signature that is too dark and relaxed (i.e. too much bass, not enough energy and clarity, mid-frequency too distant, soundstage too wide) and a comfort that I personally find mediocre (my ears touch the driver inside the earpiece because of its lack of depth and cause me heat and pain after a few hours on the ears).

After well over a year of use, the plastic of the inside in holding an earcup broke. After 1 month, the same thing happened on the other side. So a *****

As other users have already reported, my headphones started to disintegrate after about 1.5 years. First the ear pads cracked, then the glue on the headband came loose and finally the connections above the hinge on both sides broke. The answer from Sony: improper handling of the headphones and a guarantee was refused. Definitely the last pair of headphones from Sony.
The sound is great, the product is not!

I think it's one of the better headphones so far in terms of sound. However, I find the quality of the material insufficient, because the glue on the top of the earpiece somehow comes off and you can get it on your hair. It's also a shame that the ear pads wear out quickly and cracks appear. (see picture, hopefully you can see it) I also never used it while doing sports, which would have actually contributed more to the wear.
On the other hand, I find the Sony app very easy to use and the connection between my iPhone and the headphones is always flawless.
The noise cancelling is also great. You can set in the app exactly how little you want to hear from the outside world.

The sound is great. The rest is not usable. After 2 years, everything starts to fall apart. Despite proper treatment, the upholstery is frayed. In addition, the plastic coverings on both sides have broken apart at intervals of a few weeks. This was right after the warranty had expired. Was that a coincidence?
Update: In the meantime, another problem has arisen. Every now and then there is a kind of feedback in the right loudspeaker, i.e. an incredibly loud whistling noise. Until now, this always happened directly when I put on the headphones and I was always able to prevent damage to my ears. However, I can no longer use this device. If you always have to expect the thing to scream in your ears, it's too dangerous for me. Simply bad!
