Absolute beats, this little Interface can do EVERYTHING with the BEST QUALITY
First RME device for me (been using Apogee Duet 2 thus far, others prior to that) and have to confirm the hype around the RME driver and software stability: rock solid performance even at very low buffer sizes and super flexible/powerful routing software TotalMix FX.
Sound quality seems to me even higher than on the Apogee Duet 2, which I didn't expect. Extremely clear preamps and converters.
The only thing that was slightly surprising was the "limited" amount of gain on the instrument inputs: basically you can choose between -10dBV and +4dBU of input sensitivity, and then you only have another +9dB of input gain you can apply. Other interfaces tend to share the mic preamps with the instrument inputs and thus often offer up to +65dB of variable input gain. This seems to be an issue for some people with very low output pickups on their electric guitar/bass, though likely they have their pickup/string height set wrongly. With all my electric guitars and basses the input sensitivity is plenty high at -10dBV/+9dB to have average peaks at around -7dB with normal playing, which is sufficient since the noise floor of the Babyface itself is extremely low and there's ample room to apply digital gain. Regardless, in the end the recordings with the Babyface sound better to me than with the Apogee Duet 2.
