Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro CH cylinder
Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro CH cylinder
Field report
Initial situation
I have 2 entrance doors in my house.
Both doors are always closed and have a turn-knob cylinder (Kaba) inside.
Installation
The installation was easy and was done in a short time.
After unpacking, the first thing to do is charge the battery.
From my point of view, the delivery is complete, i.e. Nuki, battery, charging cable, 2 mounting plates (screw or glue, depending on the lock) incl. Allen key, adapter for Kaba turn-knob cylinder (for CH version), short instructions.
Afterwards the actual mounting of the Nuki on the door takes only 5 minutes.
The commissioning of the Nuki is done via the mobile app.
Settings
If I want the door to be unlocked automatically when I come to the door, certain default settings have to be changed for the Nuki to work properly.
On the mobile phone, the Nuki app has to be excluded from power saving mode.
The "Auto Unlock" function has to be switched on.
The location accuracy has to be "increased", only then the app will search for a Nuki when you enter the geofencing area (about 100m radius) of the house.
First experiences
The Nuki works very reliably and unlocks the door as soon as I stand in front of the door with my mobile phone. As soon as I enter the geofencing area (approx. 100m radius) of the house, the mobile phone GPS becomes active and the app searches for the Nuki. I did not notice a noticeable increase in the consumption of the mobile phone battery.
Due to the connection to the WLAN, Nuki can be operated from a distance (e.g. from work). Neither an account with Nuki nor NukiWeb is required, only the connection to the own WLAN is necessary. This way I can easily open the door for someone in front of the door.
I find Nuki a product that I can recommend with a clear conscience and that is absolutely worth its price.

Cylinder change necessary if key cannot be completely inserted from both sides at the same time, so that in an emergency door can also be opened from the outside with a key. 2 mounting plates available. I recommend using the adhesive plate if possible. however, the cylinder must not protrude by more than 4 mm. The other plate is not as stable on the door and can damage the cylinder with the upper screw. In this case, do not tighten the upper screw too much. there are a lot of accessories that should cover every application. For example, the Nuki Opener + Bridge can be bought additionally, so that the front door of an apartment building can be opened as well. Unfortunately, the front door cannot be controlled in HomeKit, but only in the Nuki app. If you consider the Nuki Opener, you should think about buying the non-Pro version, which brings the Nuki 3.0 (without integrated WiFi) online via the bridge needed by the Opener, which allows to control it from everywhere. Please note that the non-Pro model runs on batteries and the Nuki 3.0 Pro uses a battery pack instead of batteries. This way, the battery of the Pro model can be easily recharged. The best feature of the Nuki, however, is the Auto-Unlock function, which always unlocks the door automatically when you come home and are within Bluetooth range of the Nuki. This is very convenient. I also recommend buying the keypad, because you can just press the arrow to lock the door when you leave the house. Moreover, you can always open the door by entering the code (or with the Keypad 2.0 also with fingerprint - but costs about 100.-- more currently). Conclusion: Probably the best product on the market today. But you have to ask yourself whether it is worth it.

As an Apple Home user, I opted for this lock because it has Wi-Fi built in and I thought that, with no Apple Home Hub within Bluetooth range, it would make it easy to connect to my setup.
This is only partially the case. With the built-in Wi-Fi, I can control the lock from outside - via the Nuki app. I can also add the lock to Apple Home without any problems. But a control from outside (important, only concerns Apple Home) only works via Bluetooth. This means that you need an Apple TV or a HomePod within Bluetooth range of the lock. Since then, remote access has worked wonderfully. This is also described (somewhat hidden) at Nuki online.
So there is no blame for the lock and it works as described. See all the advantages, a good product. Therefore five stars. And we no longer have to hide keys when we go for a walk. Opening and closing via Apple Watch.

Great product. Maybe annoying at night as the motor makes a lot of noise

Unpacked, installed, works. I had Danalock for five years. This is very reliable and incredibly complicated with the new version (manual click programming with needle, reminiscent of the 80s). Nuki is now really state-of-the-art, I am thrilled.

Electronic door locks should be standard. Especially if those stupid door knob locks are installed. Although I still have the problem that I can't put the key in the lock from the inside when I'm at home, at least I don't forget the key on the outside of the lock* when I come home tired. I used to put the key in the lock from the inside, so I would notice if I left it on the outside. But that's no longer possible with door knob locks. And I'm not so fond of keyboards now.
If I now forget to lock the door again when I come home, Nuki reminds me by flashing when I pass by. *Fob thank you, I don't leave the key outside now because I don't use it at all. That is the biggest benefit for me.
The app is OK, but could be better (a bit of copying from Philips Hue wouldn't hurt). The overall package is coherent so far. It fulfils the purpose. Time will tell how good and reliable it is. In any case, the thing is good, but still has room for improvement here and there.

I already had the first version in use and have now replaced it because of the battery. My old one was a battery hog, but that's probably because Nuki has trouble with poorly closing doors: If the door warps due to the weather - which is the case with me - the lock becomes sluggish and the motor groans and chokes with corresponding power consumption. Of course, this is only the case with wooden exterior doors; indoors it is no problem at all. In any case, the lock should already be in use beforehand, then it's not a problem. The power consumption of the V.3.0 is still unknown.
Don't forget that with Nuki you can't open the door from the outside with the key, because there is already a key inside (no idea if modern locks can do that anyway, but I don't think so). So if it's the only access, it can get dicey if the app fails or the power is out.
And the update via Bluetooth did not run smoothly for me several times. I suspect that even minor disturbances in the transmission can lead to an interruption. But in the end it always worked, even with the new model (only one repetition necessary). Incidentally, the support is quite prompt.

Without a lock with a rotary knob (can always be opened from the outside with a key), I would not dare to install such a lock. Unless you have a second entrance.

Basically a good lock...
However, the HomeKit integration is not very reliable and the status is very often not displayed....
The attachment to the door is also a bit loose and not very stable.

Installation process is fairly simple. The longest process needed is to charge the battery that comes with the lock. It is a bit loud (vs you open/ close with key) but we do not find it disturbing. Apart from that, this model does not require the Nuki bridge which is wonderful (1 equipment less).

You notice that Nuki has experience. The included adapters fit, you are guided through the app and optional specialities of the settings are demonstrated and explained. Even with eco features like "strongly shortened rotation" it still works reliably.

Although I communicated several times with the Nuki customer service and sent them many reports and printscreens, they could not solve my problem promptly.

Without a bridge, you are forced to use the app. The app always takes a little while to load.
If you use the widget and press "unlock/lock", here it comes...the app opens. What a rubbish!!! I need the Bridge to integrate Nuki into my Home Assistant to make a widget that opens the door immediately.
