Chipolo Point Bundle

My Chipolo One Point Bluetooth tracker test revealed that it definitely has its advantages over competing products such as the Apple AirTag. More specifically, its integration into Google’s Find My Device network is a big plus for anyone who doesn’t have an Apple or Samsung phone. This is because Google’s network significantly increases the One Point’s range and localisation accuracy.
That being said, there’s still room for improvement, particularly when it comes to the ping frequency and accuracy when tracking over longer distances. The Find My Device network evidently isn’t activated by default on all Android phones. Unlike Apple and Samsung, Google only uses the tag’s «approximate location» as standard when Find My Device is activated. While that’s good for user privacy, it’s not as good for finding lost items.

I bought the Chipolo Card Spot just under half a year ago and have since had it replaced twice free of charge by digitec/galaxus. After a good 1-2 months, the card was no longer trackable. It still beeped, but could neither be paired nor found. Now the third card has already failed with the same problem. The thing is now going in the rubbish (or electronic recycling). What a shame - I haven't come across such a bad product in a long time...

The product does what it's supposed to do, but it seems that the "Find my device" network is not large at the moment.
Also, when I bought it, I thought it could also do what the other Chipolo tracker could do i.e. make the phone ring on double tap. But it seems that given that the Chipolo One Point works with the Find my device app (as opposed to the Chipolo app) then this functionality does not exist anymore... And in my case, I more often than not misplace my phone rather than my keys...

This is already the second Chipolo I gave to my teenager, so that he can find his constantly "misplaced" key via smartphone. It works well as long as the key with Chipolo on it is in the house - i.e. within Bluetooth distance.
However, if the thing is tatgäglich at the key and takes all his transports, it does not survive very long...

always had to wait so long for the signal that I found my key without chipolo (could have saved me 30 Fr.)

It looked like a good alternative to Airtag for Android devices but it does not work. Easy to connect but it would show only the location when it was near my phone. Looking on the internet I found forums mentioning that Chipolo has not rolled out their network yet. Not sure what that means, but it simply does not work. Unless one would look to use it only to find things around home triggering the sound. But too expensive for that reason. I will return mine.

The product is currently unusable. Not only is the position not updated for days, even in busy places, but it also displays incorrect positions where the tracker has never been.
Some position updates arrive 24 hours late.
The "Find my device" app does not offer a location history. The tracker cannot be located at all via the web UI.
Until Google fixes its Find My Device network: DO NOT BUY.
The hardware itself is fine.

I need the tracker to track items or see where they are. It works fine (at least as long as there are many people with iPhones that have Bluetooth turned on). You can read the test I did here:

Basically, the Chipolo One Spot works and does what it should.
I hid the One Spot nearby in Zurich and tested it for a day. Although the location is relatively well frequented, the One Spot was only found about every hour. This is probably because only iPhone users with active Bluetooth can detect the tag.
I tested with my motorcycle in the garage and also a key in the building. Unfortunately, the tracking works very poorly and hundreds of feet from the location. If I didn't know where the object was exactly I would have no chance of finding it.
So it gives you a false sense of security, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Purchased with no indication of compatibility. Does not work on Samsung or 5 year old Iphone.
Very disappointed!
In addition, deception with a photo showing 2 Chipolos one spot and specifications indicating no information on the number of pieces!

The tag has been in my son's counter for weeks. However, it is only ever displayed at home. Even when he takes it to the park where there are lots of people with smartphones, the location doesn't change. So far completely unusable.

According to this test, the whole thing does not work:

Chosen for its simplicity and positive comments, very disappointed by the 2 pieces ordered.
They are not at all accurate as soon as you move a few metres away. Have to recommend several times to start up.

With the latest Google "Find my device" its pretty much as good as an Appletag.
Certainly the best Android alternative

When my brain is on standby again and I wonder where the heck I've put my stuff again - bang, saviour in sight!
The card tracker? Clever as an agent in a slim-fit suit - fits perfectly in my wallet. Unfortunately, it has an expiry date like a yoghurt. After a year: game over, rubbish bin calling.
Conclusion: Great idea, but next time please use a replaceable battery

Once away from you it's lost. Doesn't work as hoped. I'm going to try another product as I really need a tracker.

Chipolo Card Point (Android) does not work when in the Google Play Beta programme.
Difficult and time-consuming to set up.
When I reboot my phone (Samsung), Chipolot is no longer visible and I would have to reconnect every time (which would of course be pointless if I lost the item) as I then have no physical access to Chiplot. I switched back to Tile.

was very easy to set up, download the app and the rest is almost self-explanatory.
Tests at home were successful.
Finding the tracker via the app, both acoustically and via maps, worked.
Even the other way round, i.e. pressing twice on the tracker triggered an alarm on the mobile.

I often misplace my mobile somewhere in the flat and with the Chipolo I can easily make my mobile ring and find it with a double click, even if the mobile is set to silent. You can also use it to take photos.

At first glance, the Chipolo ONE Point seems to have great potential, especially for someone like me who likes to keep an eye on everything - be it a suitcase, rucksack or keys. But unfortunately, the practice didn't quite live up to the promise of the theory.
I tested the tracker on a trip to Japan and attached it to my luggage. Unfortunately, the tracking experience was more frustrating than helpful. The location was only updated when I was literally standing next to my suitcase. For someone hoping for real-time information, this is rather suboptimal.
Another test with my backpack was similarly disappointing. Although I had my mobile (Pixel 8) and always had network, I occasionally got the message that there was no signal available. I was also disappointed by the battery life: after just four weeks, it was over. Maybe I was unlucky with an old battery, but longer-lasting batteries would definitely be desirable.
On a positive note, it is easy to set up. Connecting with my Pixel 8 was child's play and I was able to get all four trackers up and running quickly. The ability to name each tracker individually is handy - especially if you use more than one.
I think the Chipolo ONE Point has a future, especially if the network is further expanded and the tracking accuracy is improved. At the moment, however, it remains more of a gimmick with weaknesses.

Tracking with my phone works well. The status is updated, but sometimes it takes a long time for the location to be updated.
I gave the tracker to an Android user overnight. The tracker updated its location regularly.
I also gave the tracker to an iOS user at home. His iPhone did not update the status (which was to be expected). But at least one Android phone he walked past updated the status. But there was no Android phone near him at home. So I couldn't follow the tracker back to his house.
The battery in the Card Point cannot be replaced by the user. After about two years, you are asked to buy a new one and send in the old one. You get a 50% discount if you do this.
Conclusion: If you don't know where you have put your wallet (e.g. at home or in the office), the tracker works very well. In the event of theft, it will probably be rather difficult to track the thief, especially if he does not have an Android phone.
Google's network is still young, so it can only get better. Hopefully it will eventually be on a par with Apple or Samsung.
