Brother Ads-2600we
WLAN, LAN, USB
Quality of the device itself is very good for the price. Touchscreen is more useful than one might think. Still, among my document scanners, this is the least user-friendly. As other users have commented, the direct scan functions are very inconsistent (with cloud and USB drive). Sometimes creating a searchable PDF or auto-detecting page size is possible, sometimes not. The software for the Mac is more reminiscent of that of our first Canon flatbed scanner from 1998, and the storage options for custom scan programs on the computer are very modest. OCR text recognition is incredibly slow compared to today's state of the art, and to top it off, is not always reliable.
What bothers me the most:
- I have yet to get the scanner to scan an A4 page straight. Despite having corrections enabled, all documents are slightly crooked.
- The scanner often cuts off text at the bottom of documents with narrow margins.
- It is suggested by the manufacturer that the scanner is designed for heavy loads. This is only partly true. What you only discover when you take a closer look at the software and nowhere else is that the relatively expensive roller and feeder kit is only designed for 50,000 pages. I find this shocking, as in comparable scanners of this class, like for example the ix500 from Fujitsu, the roller kit is designed for 200'000 pages and also costs even less.
- When scanning via WLAN, the device never keeps the stated speeds.
- Document scanners normally recognise the outline of the document in automatic mode and cut it out. If the scanner feeds the document crooked and the descew function does not succeed (which it tends to do anyway), you get a grey square with the document in the middle.
I can only conditionally recommend the device.

Technically good scanner with good quality scans. Carrier sheets for deviating formats or plastic cards require an adjustment of the scan settings (tedious). Favorites can be set, though it still takes four clicks to trigger a scan with a saved favorite (I'm still at a loss as to why one-click scanning can't happen with a saved favorite). The feature of scanning to the cloud without need for a local computer is helpful, but also has its pitfalls in software control: OCR runs through Brother's servers and requires multiple clicks in the process, so you can't just start the scan and walk away, but have to stick around and click repeatedly. However, Brother Switzerland's technical support is very quick to respond and helpful in finding better, if not really good, solutions (due to the limitations of the software's functionality, not everything is possible).
In summary, a technically good scanner with mediocre software.

Perfect document scanner for private households. Feeds the paper properly, recognises blank pages and can straighten crooked paper. However, the scanner is probably unsuitable for professional use in offices: Although the scanner can be logged into the WLAN, scanning to an FTP or online storage locations can only be achieved by registering with Brother. However, if the scanner is in the same room, the scan can simply be triggered directly from the PC/Mac. Use a Mac and can recommend the following: Set up ControlCenter to scan directly to an app. For me it is PDFScanner, which automatically runs an OCR over it.

If you're really serious about a document scanner, you'd better spend a few francs more and look carefully at what software is included.

To archive books much the choice on this ADS 2600WE. This detects errors in the feeder perfectly and lets the Scannforgang continue after the correction. For me as a Scann-Muffel was the operation a child's play.

The scanner is great! Works perfectly over WiFi or lan and it has a web interface to configure everything is needed without using installation drivers or software on another machine. Only issue is about manuals and documentation: over complicated and mostly focused on the usb-connection process. The highest value of this machine is that with a single touch of a button can send documents to an ftp, email or directory server!

Everything works and no wishes remain open. Also suitable for Mac.

Fast scanner with good options.
The scanner is fast, even when scanning double-sided. The searchable PDF is created well. But you can't do that without additional software on the PC. In return, it can scan directly to a share without a PC. And that even via a UNC path.
The included software is not the greatest in the world, but does its job. But I don't credit the scanner for that, I credit Nuance.
You can define your own targets on the display. Unfortunately, the unwanted ones can't all be removed.

The set-up was so simple. The device scans very quickly and is ideally suited for my purposes. (DMS)

Very easy to use device. Installation/configuration a bit of a headache ifn because you only do this every 5 years.

The scanner scans quickly and neatly. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Well configurable via web interface. Scans all paper thicknesses without any problems.
It seems strange to me that it makes a significant difference whether a document is scanned directly from the scanner or from the software on the PC or DMS. With the software from the PC, the scan is absolutely flawless. A direct scan from the scanner to, for example, a network drive is an absolute disaster. In addition, the scan software supplied is not exactly the best.

At installation everything is fine, I test my first scan to an email address. A message appears and asks to access the device through a web browser. First test, find the IP address. Once found, I connect with a PC. After 10 minutes of research, I tell myself that the password must play a role. But where to find it, nothing in the manual. It is on the label on the back of the device. Phew, we can move on. The configuration was a bit laborious to put all the parameters of my mail server. Even the Infomaniak tutorial misled us by giving 485 for the SMTP port when we should enter 587. To tell you that the configuration requires in geek.
I guess if you scan on USB, it's easier. Good luck.

With a lot of patience and trial and error, you can get pretty much what you want (scanning on the local network, shortcuts on the touch screen to send scans by email or on a Synology NAS).

The device is small, quiet and scans properly. The software is ok: Brother recommends Internet Explorer 8 (!) - which was probably modern when the software was written. Since then, no one has given it a second thought.
The touch screen allows scanning to PC/FTP/Network/Email - to PC only to exactly one folder - and ONLY PDF. On FTP and USB also JPEG is possible.
For FTP, different profiles can be set and called up via shortcut keys. Emails can be preconfigured - but of course you have to enter the access data for your server manually - just like 20 years ago.
The manual explains how to move the mouse to click on a menu item, but it doesn't say what the settings are for.
All in all like all Brother devices: Super hardware, robust and works - but the function requirements and the firmware was written by the cousin of the boss' mistress - 20 years ago.
No software is included - you have to download it. It copies PaperPort14 - a program still based on c++ libraries from 2005. When scanning A4-1200dpi the program breaks: not enough memory (I have 36GB)... Otherwise it works.
