Helpful answer

There is no limit to the storage capacity of SATA hard disks. You will be able to run 18TB, 20TB or 22TB HDs etc. without any problems. Synology does keep a compatibility list https://www.synology.com/de-de/compatibility?search_by=products&model=DS723%2B&category=hdds_no_ssd_trim&p=1&change_log_p=1 but this should be treated with caution as Synology sometimes takes a long time to add HDs or no longer does so for certain DS models. Hard disks that do not appear in the list have simply not been tested. A non-listing does not mean that they do not work. https://nascompares.com/answer/max-hard-drive-size-on-synology-nas/

https://www.computerbase.de/2023-01/synology-ds723-plus-test/3/#abschnitt_lautstaerke__leistungsaufnahme Compared to the DS923+, which has the same hardware except for the two additional HD slots, it has already been optimised somewhat in terms of consumption. But it still consumes more than older Intel Celeron-based disk stations. Yes, the DS723+ only has one USB at the front. The space at the back was sacrificed in favour of the PCIe slot for the 10GB LAN card, for example.

I would advise against buying the DS723+, because the much better equipped DS923+ costs only minimally more. In return, it has the additional two disk slots, so you can also equip a DS923+ with SATA SSDs, for example. The DS923+ also has these advantages: - 4GB RAM (instead of 2) . RAID5 can be used (you can also use smaller disks, but then four, to create a large storage pool). Synology DS923+ (0 TB) Regarding the speed of the M.2 SSDs, the NAS itself is of course limited in terms of speed via the Ethernet interface, so I would not set up a volume with M.2 SSDs if you want to be able to send or receive data quickly via the LAN. Without switching to 10Gbit Ethernet, you wouldn't get much out of the fast speed of the M.2 SSDs.

Salt allows port forwarding, but it requires a public IPv4 address (+10 Fr. per month). In the web interface, the advanced view can be selected and then the ports can be released under "Network NAT port mapping". Furthermore, a reserved IP address should be set.
