Netgears Nighthawk X10 hat gleich zwei Besonderheiten: einen 10-Gigabit-LAN-Anschluss und ein 60-Gigahertz-Funkmodul, mit dem aber bislang kein Endgerät zurechtkommt. Er funkt ebenfalls rasant, auch wenn er als einziger Testkandidat kein Band Steering kann. Klasse ist das hohe Tempo beim Anschluss von Festplatten.

Mit dem X10 lässt Netgear die Muskeln spielen: Per 11ad liefert der Router beeindruckende Datenraten. Diese Kraft verpufft aber in der Praxis meist wirkungslos, weil es keine passenden WLAN-Clients gibt und sich das hohe Tempo nur über eine sehr kurze Distanz einstellt. Über 5 und 2,4 GHz erzielt der Nighthawk zwar auch ordentliche Datenraten, ist aber nicht schneller als deutlich günstigere Router...

Mit der Hardware des R9000 zeigt Netgear, wie sich aus dem Konzept WLAN-Router noch Leistungspotenzial schöpfen lässt. Einen Teil davon kann man aber erst mit kommenden Clients nutzen, die auch 60-GHz-WLAN sprechen. Und die Firmware lässt bei diesem mit 400 Euro alles andere als billigen Gerät noch einige Wünsche offen.
