Product details
Polyactic acid (PLA) is a polymer made from lactic acid molecules, which are simply derived from the fermentation of substances like glucose. Currently, we offer PLA filament in 1.75 mm and 3 mm sizes. When choosing the filament diameter, please consider the specifications of your 3D printer and the extruder being used. These standard filament sizes are compatible with most common 3D printers; however, some manufacturers require a proprietary diameter. Whether PLA filament is the optimal choice for the 3D object you intend to print depends on various factors such as the intended use and the specifications of the 3D printer. A heated bed is advantageous for PLA filament, but not strictly necessary. We recommend using a cooler when processing PLA filament. Compared to ABS filament, PLA filament generally allows for finer structures and details on a well-calibrated 3D printer, is less prone to warping, and has significantly more pleasant odor characteristics during processing. However, PLA filament has lower stability and heat tolerance than ABS filament. In summer heat, PLA objects can indeed deform. PLA is fundamentally biodegradable as a raw material. However, the final product contains pigments and additives. Therefore, PLA filament and objects made from it should not be composted.
