WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra

Excellent compromise for a home NAS. Not too expensive, but does everything you could possibly need. Personal cloud limited only by the capacity of the drive. WD Red drives are very good

Have bought 2 devices within ca.4 years, life span is only ca. 2 years. Will switch to another product.

I bought the product based on many good reviews and recommendations on Mac websites. After practical experience I am disappointed with the MyCloud OS and the many problems under MacOS.
Changing the device name led to problems with admin interface (apparently known problem in WD forum). Only after several reboots did the admin interface work correctly again.
Creating users and shares does not correspond to the instructions, not even to the latest online version. Access rights can only be distributed for entire shares, not for folder structures within them, i.e. tiered access rights require several shares mounted as individual drives. Group rights do not work as expected (problem known in the WD forum).
Then transfer of two backup folders from another drive (134 GB, 349k files and 61 GB, 8.8k files). Despite continuous gigabit connection about 1 day, which is slow compared to my other network disks. Also "get info" for such folders takes much longer than for other drives.
Later I wanted to delete one of these folders and copy it again. Deletion did not work from the Mac Finder: aborted with error message "Folder xy is in use" (known problem in the WD forum). Deleting via the web interface (WD forum recommendation) requires that you first activate cloud sharing (which I didn't really want for backup folders). Folder not visible in the web interface at first, with a message that it was still being indexed (for what felt like an eternity); later it was possible to delete this way. Recopying did not work because of an incomprehensible error message "item xy already exists". Attempt to do this via the web interface failed because not all folders are displayed there (this time without a message about indexing). I am deeply frustrated that I am spending hours on an 0815 task because of immature / faulty device software. Rebooting seems to help each time, but that shouldn't really be necessary.

In and of itself, certainly a good device: if it works at all.
Setting it up is supposed to be very easy (according to WD). I've never had so many problems with a device. Even a friend, an IT technician, had to call WD support until the thing finally worked. It now saves the data, but I still can't access the saved data. No description, outdated WD information on the web. Conclusion: total crap from WD!
Unfortunately, it was also not clear in the Galaxus shop whether 2 memory cassettes were already included in the price. They are. I therefore returned the 2 additional ones.

Since the last OS 5 update, nothing works anymore. You are not a computer scientist? You have no patience? Don't buy this device, you'll lose your nerves.
There is a saving option that doesn't work, the disk spins all day with a blower noise worse than my janitor when he cleans the dead leaves.
Sharing documents, bullshit since this last update. See attachment.
WD's help, a utopia, you have to connect, you fill a form, once done you send it and they answer you that the page does not exist.
In short, useless, do not waste your money.

It's an absolute disaster. I only read reviews afterwards. Digitec itself says that the thing is unsafe. Why are they selling it? That's just bullshit.
