Expectations were set too high.
After a lot of research on the WWW, I came across this charger from Varta because of the refresh function. The device was finally ordered from Digitec, partly because of the more expensive offers from the competition, and was reliably delivered by Digitec within a short time. I expected this device to optimise my existing batteries, which were also from Varta, as advertised in the description. The first thing that annoyed me was that I had to buy another 4 batteries even though I already had 17 AA and 14 AAA batteries. After inserting 4 AA rechargeable batteries into the device for refreshing, I realised that it could not withstand any load for the check and subsequent refresh function. The refresh function took hours and ended in a malfunction. Presumably the adapter was not up to the load and the result was a subsequent permanent flashing of all four displays. It was no longer possible to determine whether the batteries were charged, optimised or defective after all the displays started flashing again immediately when the adapter was connected to a power source. I'm beginning to suspect that Varta wants to get rid of its AA batteries because why is the device only advertised with 4 batteries, even by Varta? Digitec's service, on the other hand, is to be recommended. They responded promptly to my complaint. Thank you for that.

So noisy
When the device is charging batteries, the fan makes so much noise that you can hear it even from the next room. The noise is so unpleasant that the only solution is to charge the batteries when you leave the flat. What's more, after just a few charging cycles, several batteries (of the same brand) can no longer be charged. The charger displays an error message and it's impossible to fix it.
