Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4
Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4
Full-grown router at an affordable price. Also suitable for use in the enterprise segment. Can be integrated into UNMS (Ubiquiti Network Management).
The predecessor EdgeRouter light (bought on11.03.2015) went suddenly over the Jordan for reasons not yet quite clear. I hope the current router remains a little longer in operation.

Works flawlessly to connect our network to ProtonVPN using OpenVPN. Setup with ProtonVPN's configuration file and OpenVPN's instructions is quite simple (https://www.ovpn.com/en...).
However, this device is only for advanced users in two respects: for the network configuration and for the operation of the router, which is basically just a command line controlled Linux box.
Very bad is the fact that the preinstalled firmware is many years old and must be updated immediately. The pre-installed version is completely unusable.

After the total failure of my Turris Omnia "Nerd" router from init7, a replacement was needed very quickly due to home office. The EdgeRouter 4 was quickly set up. However, the setup of the VPN server was a bit more complicated than on the Turris Omnia.

The "Advantages" I put tells that this is not a router for "average" user -- those who need just router+ap+modem+whenever, all-in-one. This is proper, dedicated just router. You know what you are buying.
I am using it with Init7 and it delivers full speed (to the limitation of technology itself).

I have the router with a SFP module for Init7 Fiber7 in operation. I have not encountered any problems since commissioning, neither with the throughput nor with the compatibility of the SFP module.
