Smart is different
Before anyone buys this thing... read this:
Think about why you need it?
I need it as a matter hub. I do automations (for now) with Google.
If you are dealing with automations then be aware:
Functions like IF, THEN, ELSE, WAIT are important (my experience, my opinion as an IT specialist)
Google Automation can only do: IF, THEN
The automation functions are very rigid.
You can't always and everywhere say in the functions that you want to wait 2 minutes after an event. Or that the status of a device should be checked.
What's more, sometimes it can't even understand the status of a smartphone device properly!
Automations from Google come in two categories: Personal and household.
Well... Personal has things that are not possible in Household. And vice versa. The only problem is that you would need building blocks from both sides to make really clever automations. And no, that's not possible.
Example:
IF SmartLock open THEN lights on, THEN wait 5 minutes, THEN lights off.
No joke: I can NOT realise this example with Google Automation. Instead, it can switch on light scenes on voice command and trigger Philipps Hue sequences, for example.
But cleverly combining several smarthome states and starting processes in a targeted and timed manner? Not a chance.
It's sad. 2024 and a tech giant produces this.

Great Product
Making my life easier now buy not buying any extras as this model have the Chromecast built in & WiFi. I am not giving it away again. There are always Pros and Cons in life and it all boils up to what you need the product for and how you use it. I am Loving it!

Fun gadget
Fun part, still have to not very many smart devices but so far everything works great.

Failure
Sound quality is poor - well, to be expected at this price. But the connectivity with other Google Home devices is not intuitive at all and works poorly or not at all! You can definitely expect better from a company like Google. Advise against buying. Also: it's amazing how poorly voice recognition still works.

Smart, beautiful, practical!
A nice gadget which in my opinion belongs in every (Google) Smart Home.
But you have to be aware that this is clearly a speaker with a display and not a tablet with a speaker.
This means that the speaker is mainly operated by voice command. There are therefore relatively few apps that can be selected directly on the display. Apps from the Playstore cannot even be installed. Third-party apps can only be streamed to the display with Chromcast via mobile. Radio, Spotify and calendar etc. are all called up by acoustic command.
You simply get visual feedback in addition to the acoustic feedback. For example, the radio station and song title are displayed.
However, this is very intuitive and works without any problems. You just have to get used to talking to a device ;-)
I am most surprised by the sound, my first impression was: Wow! I never thought that such a small device could be so bass-heavy. To my taste, it was even a bit too strong. But I was able to correct that via the Google Home app.Pro

Has radio, has alarm clock = has no radio alarm clock
It is really incomprehensible why in 2023 a smart device for the bedside table does not have a radio alarm clock. After all, the device radio can also be an alarm clock. Some functions are available in certain countries. Therefore, it is even less comprehensible.
I have recreated the radio alarm clock function using IOBroker via Google Hub. That works, but it can't be the solution!
Using the Google Home app, you can also have the radio switched on in the morning. Just a bit cumbersome...Contra
