This is my third portable AC. This AC is a well constructed portable unit that comes with a single hose. I use this to cool my bedroom. I have connected a power measurement device to the plug and have measured between 500Watt (cool night) to 630W (day, 32C outside). So the manufacturer's power rating of 700W in test conditions seems to be accurate. The biggest issue that I have with this AC is the poor choice of compressor used by Delonghi and its placement. The compressor is completely exposed without any acoustic foam. One can easily see the compressor through the bottom grill/slots for air intake. Also its a typical rotary compressor, and the noise of the compressor permeates through the room. I have never seen such a construction for a portable AC. This I believe is the the biggest issue with this AC. It should not be labeled as SILENT!! Maybe a scroll compressor with inverter based control would be a better fit for this AC. I have installed the AC near the window at the same height of the window opening. I bought another hose from Migros and fixed it to the intake grill for the condenser, to reduce the negative air pressure in the room and increase efficieny. The AC cools my bedroom adequately during both day and night maintaining 25C. There are overall 3 useful modes viz. Normal, Silent and Realfeel. Normal cooling works by setting a temperature point and the AC will control fan speed and cycle the compressor. Silent mode reduces the fan speed to minimum; it partially solves the noise problem, but due to lack of sound insulation near the compressor I can clearly hear the unit operating and cycling. I have used another fan to generate some white noise and subdue this irritation. Realfeel mode works best during days with high humidity and normal temperatures, as it tries to control the humidity and does not care that much about the temperatures. The mode completely fails during hot days. There are dehumidifier and fan modes use that I did not use.
I had to open up the unit, because dust and grime has stuck to the condensor fins and had to be removed with a vacuum cleaner. It's surprising that the manufacture did not include a filter for the bottom inlet. Most portable units have 2x filters, one for the evaporator coils, and one for the condensor coils. I have included some pictures of the insides, including the fan motors, compressor. There is a small water tank which is filled by the condensate form the evaporator coils and soaks the condensor fins and cools them to try to improve the operating efficiency, since evaporating water will cool down the condensor a little bit.Pro

The power cord should be longer.
We have placed the device in the bedroom.
We turn it on each time from about 16.00h.
Until bedtime, we have a nice, cool bedroom that makes the summer heat so much more bearable.
The thick exhaust pipe we lead through the balcony door and closed shutters outside.Pro

A nice scam... take an air conditioner from another brand... more efficient, less noisy, cheaper, etc... after 1 day, I already regret having given my old air conditioner to a friend and bought this De'Longhi Penguino PAC EX100 "Silent"
