Hi. Do you have a PC (tower) or a notebook? With a PC you could also use a PCIe card, e.g.: ASUS PCE-AC56 (PCI-E x1, 866Mbit/s, 450Mbit/s).
The range will probably be about the same. However, it will be able to transmit data much faster, because MIMO systems can transmit considerably more bit/s per Hz bandwidth used, due to the use of several transmitting and receiving antennas. This hiter also supports USB 3.0, which is good for data transmission.
Hello, 1. in all your questions and evaluations you always write 5MHz. You probably mean the 5GHz frequency band, but what does a factor of 1000 matter ;-). 2. have a look at page 27 in the manual. http://downloads.cdn.re-in.de/1400000-1499999/001403942-an-01-de-AVM_FRITZ_WLAN_STICK_AC_860.pdf It seems like it doesn't work smoothly with DFS either.
If you don't have the fattest concrete ceilings, the range should be sufficient, although with USB antennas I can well imagine that you will receive something, but the connection quality will not be OK. What are you using as an access point?
According to the manufacturer, this stick is only compatible with Windows. If Apple has a plug & play driver for it in their operating system, it may also work under Mac. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any report on the internet about a Mac user with this stick.
You would only have to click on the linked manufacturer's page. Then you can see it ;-)
