Well sprung or well shaken? The new e-scooters from Navee have to prove themselves on the rough cobblestones of Milan. How it works - and what else the ST3 and GT3 models have to offer.

The paving on the Piazza Sempione in Milan is incredibly rough: large, red, barely hewn stones lie there. Navee has chosen the perfect place to present its new e-scooter models. The top models ST3 and ST3 Pro are equipped with a new type of suspension on both axles, which is put to a real endurance test around the Arco della Pace.

On a short lap, I experience how well the ST3 absorbs bumps. The surface on the piazza is an extreme case, but the suspension absorbs it surprisingly well. Regular cobblestones and bumps on tarmac roads are no problem at all for the scooter. I barely feel them as I whizz through the streets of Milan.

ST3 series: top model with top suspension

The new top models from Navee have so-called damping arm suspension on both wheels. They dampen bumps significantly more than the other models. The manufacturer has manufactured the suspensions according to the criteria of the automotive industry. They are thoroughly convincing in the first short test.

The peak power of the motor on the ST3 Pro is 1350 watts, which should make gradients of up to 28 per cent possible. A special motor cooling system and the dynamic control system ensure that the power does not drop on steep gradients. The somewhat slimmed-down ST3 delivers a maximum of 1000 watts, which should be enough for a 22 per cent incline. To put this in context: according to the Guinness Book of Records, the world's steepest road in Dunedin, New Zealand, has a gradient of up to 35 per cent. The steepest section on the famous cycle race route up the Alpe d'Huez in the French Alps climbs at just over 14 per cent.

Important to know: All e-scooters have a maximum rated power of 500 watts and are therefore authorised for Switzerland or the European markets. The maximum speed is limited to 20 or 25 km/h, depending on the legal basis. The ST3 Pro can cover up to 75 kilometres on a single charge, the normal ST3 up to 60 kilometres.

The ST3 models are equipped with three brakes: a drum brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear of the wheels. There is also the electronic eABS brake on the rear engine. This ensures that the wheel does not lock and reduces the risk of skidding. Energy can also be recovered during braking.

I've already done a few emergency stops with the ST3 - on normal roads and on cobblestones. The brakes really grab hold, I come to a quick stop at 20 km/h at full speed. The wheels don't lock, even when I apply full pressure. That's really well done.

Another safety feature is the traction control system (TCS). This prevents the wheels from spinning when accelerating on slippery surfaces.

ST3 Pro: LEDs on the side like tuning

The ST3 Pro has a special extra on both sides of the running board: an LED strip on each side that can be controlled via the app. There are 15 different modes to choose from. This means you don't have to ride through the city flashing wildly, but can simply use the LEDs as additional lighting to make you more visible at night. Such lights are not permitted in all markets, which is why they are deactivated in Germany, for example. In Switzerland, on the other hand, this is not a problem - at least according to the importer.

Navee has also included an additional function that is really useful in everyday life in all ST3 models: If you use an iPhone, you can add the e-scooter to the Find My network and locate it even when it's offline.

The ST3 is already available to order in our shop for 650 francs. The launch date for our shops in the eurozone is still unclear. The ST3 Pro will probably be available at the end of the month for just under 800 francs, and will cost 850 euros in the European markets.

GT3 series: with ABS and traction control

With the GT3, Navee has introduced a second model series - somewhat more simply equipped and less expensive. The standard GT3 will be launched on the market in the next few weeks. The recommended retail price is around 450 francs. The launch date and price outside Switzerland are still unclear. The GT3 Max, the second model in the series, will be launched at the end of May at an RRP of just under 600 francs. The price in Europe is 650 euros.

Despite the relatively low price, the GT3 models offer many features from the luxury class. For example, both axles are sprung: The manufacturer has installed fork suspension at the front and cylinder suspension at the rear. The 10-inch tubeless tyres also increase the damping - and ensure driving stability at the same time.

On normal roads and cobblestones, this suspension is sufficient, as the test drive in Milan shows. On the massive stones of the Piazza Sempione, however, the GT3 cannot keep up with the ST3. There are clear differences in the damping here.

The e-scooters have a drum brake at the front and a brake with eABS at the rear. TCS traction control is included, as with the ST3. I immediately notice the differences when testing: the GT3 also stops decently, but has a significantly longer braking distance than the ST3.

This is also available with the GT3 Max

The differences between the GT3 and GT3 Max lie in the range and motor power. The GT3's battery provides a range of 50 kilometres. According to the manufacturer, the Max version can cover up to 75 kilometres on a single charge

Accessories such as a mobile phone holder are also available for the e-scooters.

The GT3 Max's electric motor delivers a continuous output of 500 watts and a maximum of 1000 watts, which according to Navee should make gradients of up to 22 per cent possible. With the GT3, the maximum values are 700 watts and a gradient of 18 per cent. Depending on the topography and weight of the rider, the more powerful version is certainly recommended.

The GT3 and ST3 are not the only new models that Navee is launching on the market this year. The Chinese company, which was only founded in 2021, has already announced that another «Super Scooter» is to be unveiled - perhaps at the IFA tech trade fair in Berlin in September.

Gadgets are my passion - whether you need them for the home office, for the household, for sport and pleasure or for the smart home. Or, of course, for the big hobby next to the family, namely fishing.
