Nova 12 series: Three new mid-range smartphones from Huawei

Huawei is focussing on the cameras in its three new mid-range smartphones. This is also necessary, as some of the hardware used elsewhere is outdated even for the price.
Since the USA put Huawei on its boycott list, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is finding it difficult to obtain modern hardware. The three new Nova 12 models only offer 4G, while chip manufacturer Qualcomm only produces 5G chips even for low-cost smartphones - but Huawei is not allowed to use the technology.
Only 4G and Huawei's latest user interface
The Nova 12 s is the most expensive of the three new smartphones and has the best features. Huawei emphasises the high resolution of the front camera and its wide viewing angle of 100 degrees. This means you can not only take selfies of yourself, but also get larger groups in front of the lens.

While the displays are almost the same size, their quality decreases with the price of the smartphones. With the affordable Nova 12 i, for example, you are only looking at an LCD screen, but it also has the largest battery, which in turn charges more slowly than the other two Nova 12s. The most important data at a glance:
Due to the chipsets installed, the three Nova 12 models are limited to 4G. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also only up to date on the Nova 12 s with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. In the Nova 12 SE and Nova 12 i, the Snapdragon 680 with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 only offers older standards for wireless connections.

The Nova 12 series are the first smartphones to be delivered by Huawei with its new EMUI 14 user interface. In addition to visual adjustments and background optimisations, it also offers more control over the transfer of personal data to third parties. The manufacturer is continuing to replace the Google services missing due to the US boycott with its own services and apps. For example, the App Gallery is still the first port of call for installing apps.

As a primary school pupil, I used to sit in a friend's living room with many of my classmates to play the Super NES. Now I get my hands on the latest technology and test it for you. In recent years at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, now at Digitec and Galaxus.
