Huawei P50 Pocket: Foldable and designed according to magnetic fields

Huawei introduces a foldable that folds over the narrow edge. It not only stands out with its design, but also has a UV camera installed.
Competition for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: The Huawei P50 Pocket is thin, foldable, and boasts not only of its eye-catching design, but also of its camera. It has new built-in a lens that makes UV radiation visible.

Magnetic fields by Iris van Herpen
The most striking thing about the Huawei P50 Pocket is clearly the smartphone's outer shell, which folds over the short edge like a vanity mirror. Huawei calls the color "Premium Gold" and it is also an eye-catcher because of its grain. It is the brainchild of Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. According to her, she was inspired by magnetic fields. When these are made visible, they show waveforms.
Just having an eye-catching design is not enough. The foldable, which is 15 millimeters thick when folded, comes up with flagship specs.
The camera with the UV lens
It is not known whether the camera system is equipped with Leica lenses like its unfoldable sibling, the P50 Pro. Any Leica branding is missing on the outer shell. That is usually something that Huawei notes proudly on its devices. Nevertheless, the cameras are still something Huawei brags about.
The UV camera is the unique selling point of the P50 Pocket's camera system. This should allow for exciting pictures and - as Huawei wants the media to know at a press event - you can see where you have applied sunscreen and where not.
Large battery + 4G = eternally long runtime?
Between the 6.9-inch diagonal main screen and the 1.04-inch diameter circular outdoor display, a 4000 mAh battery powers a modified Snapdragon 888 system-on-a-chip (SoC). Since Huawei is not allowed to work with U.S. companies, products, and knowledge due to a trade embargo imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, no 5G components are installed yet. However, it remains unclear how Huawei managed to install SoCs from the American manufacturer Qualcomm.
Since the Snapdragon 888 is considered one of the most frugal SoCs on the market, but 5G is a power hog, Huawei boasts about the battery runtime. The large battery and the energy-saving SoC promise theoretical standby times of up to 472 hours and a talk time of 22 hours. However, these theoretical values have to prove themselves in everyday use.
Which operating system is "Emui 12"?
Questions arise when it comes to the operating system. Since Huawei is no longer allowed to work with Google, devices have been shipped with a Google-free Android version in the past. Huawei has put their user interface Emui 12 on top of that.

At the same time, Huawei is currently working on its own operating system called HarmonyOS. This is already available on smartwatches and tablets, but possibly not yet on the P50 Pocket. The spec sheet only states "Emui 12" under "Operating System". Huawei has already written that way for the Huawei Nova 9, which runs an Android version. Therefore, we can assume that the Huawei P50 Pocket ships with Android.
The Huawei P50 Pocket, just like the P50 Pro, will arrive during the first quarter of 2022. It will cost 1599 francs in Switzerland, and 1599 euros in Germany and Austria.
