DXRacer: Three chairs, one arse

That's right, dear Category Management. I was supposed to test a single gaming chair for this review. Now there are three of them. I don't have that much sitting meat. What should I do?

In addition, the largest version of the DXRacer series is obviously designed for American bums. So it will be difficult to find a suitable test subject.

But I don't want to gossip about my friends any longer. Not that these are the last chairs I'll be given.

For sitting meat in three variants: An overview

DXRacer produces chairs with a racing feel in various sizes. If you have a rather narrowbreasty arse - or do you say narrow arse? - you should go for the Racing series. The Iron series is perfect for medium-sized bums. The Tank series, on the other hand, is ideal for very overweight people.

Here you can find all the DXRacer chairs listed in our shop.

The three test models come with the following specifications:

For the office worker as well as the gamer

Of course, I could only test the Racer series with my stature. That's why I gave the chairs to various colleagues in the editorial team to try out over the past few weeks. In order not to offend anyone, I have summarised the various opinions for this review. However, I really couldn't find anyone who was sufficiently well-built for the Tank series. But apart from the back angle, this version differs only minimally from the other models in terms of comfort and workmanship.

Design

Takes up more space than conventional chairs, but looks good.

Many people go for the racing look. If you use a racing chair in the office, it can give the sometimes dull everyday life a new kick. Provided you have a dull everyday life - it can't be as great everywhere as in our editorial team. The uniformity of office furniture could definitely do with a visual refresher. However, you shouldn't be blinded by the design. Yes, when it comes to comfort and health, for once you shouldn't buy what others think is cool. If Apple made chairs, they would certainly be pretty. But in terms of functionality and personalisation, you would probably have to make compromises.

All right, done dissing. The fact is that the gaming chairs from DXRacer don't just look pretty, they also really deliver.

Functionality

The stable base also has a dust catcher function.
The stable base also has a dust catcher function.

Unlike the previously tested T1 Race Gaming Chair from Corsair, the gaming chairs from DXRacer can unfortunately not be used as a recliner. With Corsair, the backrest angle can be adjusted up to 180°. Here you get 135°, or 120° for the Tank series. What I really like is the tilt function. It can be freely adjusted up to around 14°. Rocking forwards and backwards is particularly helpful if, like me, you are a fidgety person who has trouble sitting for hours on end. Of course, you can also do other things with it. But let's leave it at that, I don't want my pious followers to dislike me because of an overly suggestive innuendo.

During assembly, which is quick and easy, it is noticeable that the workmanship of the DXRacer base crosses is more stable than that of some competitor products. Corsair uses hard plastic instead of metal, onto which decorative plastic elements are attached. This should help the longevity of the product.

I am pleased that the DXRacer products have a maximum seat height of 52 and 54 cm respectively. With Corsair, I always sat too low in the office in relation to the non-height-adjustable office desk. Here I can finally get a right angle at the elbow, which is not insignificant in terms of ergonomics. What's a bit annoying is that the gas lift on our test models is self-retracting overnight. This means that I always find the chair a few centimetres higher in the morning. But it could also be that our office troll has been up to mischief here for weeks.

What you also get are freely adjustable armrests and two cushions. The neck cushion was always in use by all test subjects. In contrast, only one member of the editorial team found the lumbar cushion to be usable. This is simply too hard to position it comfortably.

Comfort

In contrast to the lumbar cushion, I find the neck cushion comfortable.
In contrast to the lumbar cushion, I find the neck cushion comfortable.

The seat cushion of the gamer chairs is neither too hard nor too soft. Okay, it could be a bit softer for my bum, but for most arses it's fine. In contrast to Corsair's T1 Race Gaming Chair, I really appreciate the fact that I can work well and for a long time in an upright sitting position. Where Corsair's chair is perfect for hanging out, but doesn't give me any pleasure during longer shooter or office sessions, DXRacer scores points with its optimum height and backrest position.

There are cut-outs (ventilation slots) behind the head on the backrest to protect your neck from overheating. The cut-out between the seat and backrest can also provide some air circulation. However, this does not help enough to dissipate body heat on hot days. To draw another comparison with the T1; in Corsair's model, the seams of the pattern provide additional air circulation. Unfortunately, this is not the case here.

Conclusion: Is this one worth buying?

Luckily, we don't regularly have temperatures above 30 degrees here. Because I wouldn't want to sit or stick to a DXRacer in summer due to the lack of air circulation. Otherwise, there's not much to criticise here. I think the price-performance ratio is absolutely fine. Especially as I can work or game for hours on a DXRacer in a correctly upright, ergonomic position without back pain.

In terms of functionality, the only thing I miss is a freely adjustable support for the lumbar area. Although a corresponding cushion is included, it is a little too full for my taste. However, most chairs with a racing look have this problem. If you want ergonomics in perfection, you would have to move away from the racing design for better or worse.

If I hadn't already found the perfect chair for me, I would consider switching to a DXRacer. But I will hand over my test models, which cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, to my friends in Category Management. Of course, I will still give them a thorough clean beforehand.
