Arlo increases subscription prices - again

An email with the subject "Price adjustment" rarely means good things. This is also the case with Arlo. The security camera specialist has informed its customers that the subscription service will become more expensive.
Arlo will be charging even more for its subscription models - the "Arlo Secure Plans", as the US company calls them - from 2024. All three plans on sale will cost one franc more in future.
In per cent terms, the increase is greatest for the plan for a single camera: 17 per cent. If you want to manage and control multiple cameras, the plan prices for "Secure Multi Camera" and "Secure Plus Multi Camera" will rise by seven and five per cent respectively.
Arlo already increased its plan prices in March 2023. Even then, the percentage increases were the highest for the use of a camera. From January 2024, the price will be 5.90 francs - almost double the 2.99 francs from the beginning of 2023.
Arlo justifies the new price increases by stating that it will continue to "invest in the development of our product and service offering" in 2024. In addition, "interesting new AI-supported innovations" are to be introduced that will enable the cameras to "offer even more effective all-round protection". No further details are available. An overview of the current services in the plan is provided by Arlo on this page.
The price increases make it more interesting for users of the Arlo cameras to use them without a plan and store the recordings locally. However, this requires at least the base station. However, this does not solve the problem that Arlo does not offer some functions without a plan, such as packet detection or zoning of the monitored areas.

In addition, you may need to invest in your own storage solutions such as a NAS or at least SD cards.
Surveillance cameras without a plan
If you are considering purchasing one or more new cameras for surveillance, the renewed price increases for Arlo are likely to make competitor models more exciting. Especially those that work without a subscription and in some cases don't even require a base station. These models usually come with memory cards in the device. The Eufy series from Anker or cameras from Reolink.
How are you dealing with Arlo's price increases? Are you considering switching to another brand or cancelling your plan? Write it in the comments.
